The US military has reportedly launched a series of strikes on Iranian targets near the Strait of Hormuz, hitting Qeshm port and Bandar Abbas as well as vessels in the Gulf of Oman, according to US and Iranian officials.

A senior US official told Fox News that American forces struck Iran’s Qeshm port and Bandar Abbas, but insisted the attacks did not amount to a formal resumption of the war or the end of the April 7 ceasefire.

Iranian state media, meanwhile, reported that air defenses had been activated in western Tehran and were “countering hostile targets.”

Iran’s Central Headquarters of Hazrat Khatam al-Anbiya claimed that US forces had violated the ceasefire by targeting an Iranian oil tanker moving from Iran’s coastal waters near Jask toward the Strait of Hormuz, as well as another vessel entering the strait off the coast of Fujairah in the UAE.

The Iranian military body also accused Washington of coordinating with “some regional countries” to carry out airstrikes against civilian areas along the coasts of Bandar Khamir, Sirik, and Qeshm Island.
