Joni Lamb’s Ex-Husband, Marcus Lamb Admitted To Cheating On Her, Citing Blackmail And Extortion

Joni Lamb, the co-founder and president of the Daystar Television Network, died on May 7, 2026, at the age of 65. She faced serious medical issues, which rapidly deteriorated after a recent back injury heightened her health challenges. However, even amid such a condition, Joni was able to spend her last moments before death at her home in Bedford, Texas. Her company, Daystar, announced her death in a heartbreaking post, recalling her faith in God even in the face of hostilities. Her demise brought her ex-husband, Marcus Lamb and his affair under the spotlight.

What made Joni Lamb’s first husband admit to infidelity on live television?

Daystar Television Network co-founder and the first husband of Joni Lamb, Marcus Lamb, admitted to an extramarital affair live on television. On November 30, 2010, he used Daystar’s flagship show, Celebration (where he appeared with his then-wife, Joni Lamb), to reveal that he had an “inappropriate relationship” with a woman several years ago. He, however, shifted the situation entirely to a different direction, claiming that he was a victim of some undesired circumstances, which forced him to come clean about his infidelity years after it took place.

As per Marcus’ statement, available in an NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth article, he alleged that three former employees of Daystar were blackmailing him, threatening to expose his past infidelity. They even allegedly tried to extort USD 7.5 million from him in lieu of keeping their mouth shut. That was what prompted him to publicise the affair, despite knowing it would significantly harm his reputation and that of his company’s as well. Notably, his then-wife, Joni Lamb also knew about the entire situation, and they jointly decided that he would confess everything on live television to end the alleged extortion attempts once and for all.

Joni and Marcus, who are both now deceased, were extremely religious. The former Christian couple believed that their money belonged to God and they had no right to use it for unlawful deeds like extortion. In the same show, Marcus stated that the Lambs refused to give “God’s money” to extortionists. Joni Lamb called the infidelity an “emotional relationship” that escalated. She noted that they had already repaired their marriage through intensive Christian counselling with Fred and Anna Kendall of the Life Languages Institute before the extortion attempt.

What was the result of Marcus Lamb’s public admission of cheating?

Marcus Lamb’s public admission of infidelity and his wife’s assurance that everything was fine between them didn’t end the controversy. The issue escalated further, as immediately after the broadcast, former Daystar marketing executive, Jeanette Hawkins filed a lawsuit against Marcus and the network. The suit alleged that the affair lasted seven years and that the revelation caused her severe emotional pain by compromising the Christian values of her workplace. Daystar and Marcus retaliated by filing counter-suits against her and two former employees, accusing them of the USD 7.5 million extortion scheme.

The legal bout ended quietly by December 2011. All civil claims filed by the former employees were either dropped or dismissed, and Daystar subsequently dismissed all of its counter-suits. Marcus and Joni didn’t let the controversy affect their relationship and remained married from 1982 until his death in 2021 due to complications from COVID-19. They were parents to three children, a son, Jonathan Lamb, and two daughters, Rachel and Rebecca. Jonathan was notably estranged from his mother until her death in May 2026. It is not known whether he even bid her farewell before she passed away.
