New Delhi : Air India will cut its international flights on select routes and temporarily suspend services on some overseas destinations amid airspace curbs, and high jet fuel prices.

Among the temporarily suspended flights are Delhi-Chicago, Delhi-Newark, Mumbai-New York (JFK), Delhi-Shanghai, Delhi-Malé, Chennai-Singapore and Mumbai-Dhaka.

While announcing the rationalisation of its services between June and August 2026, the airline on Wednesday said the adjustments have been made in response to a combination of factors, including continued airspace restrictions over certain regions and record high jet fuel prices for international operations, which significantly impact the commercial viability of certain planned services.

“These changes are aimed at improving network stability and reducing last-minute inconvenience to passengers,” Air India said adding despite the challenges and beyond these adjustments, the airline will continue to operate more than 1200 international flights every month, retaining a robust international network that spans five continents, including 33 flights per week to North America, 47 flights per week to Europe, 57 flights per week to the United Kingdom, 8 flights per week to Australia, 158 flights per week to the Far East, Southeast Asia and SAARC regions, and 7 flights per week to Mauritius (Africa).

Air India said it will proactively assist customers with bookings affected by the cancellations through this period with re-accommodation on alternative feasible Air India flights, free date change or full refunds, as applicable.

In addition to suspending flights, Air India has drastically reduced frequency of several international flights per week. For instance, Delhi-San Francisco frequency has been reduced from 10 weekly to 7 in August. Delhi-Toronto has been cut from 10 to 5 in July, increasing to daily operation from August. Delhi-Vancouver has been reduced from 7 to 5. However, Mumbai-Newark service has been increased from 3 weekly to 7.

Similarly, Delhi-Paris has been reduced from 14 to 7, Delhi-Copenhagen: reduced from 4 to 3, Delhi-Milan reduced from 5 to 4, Delhi-Vienna: reduced from 4 to 3, Delhi-Zurich reduced from 4 to 3, Delhi-Rome reduced from 4 to 3, Delhi-Melbourne cut from 7 weekly to 4, Delhi-Sydney reduced from 7 to 4. The flight frequency to Far East, Southeast Asia and SAARC counties have almost been halved. Delhi-Singapore reduced from 24 weekly to 14, Mumbai-Singapore reduced from 14 weekly to 7, Delhi-Bangkok: reduced from 28 to 21 from July, Mumbai-Bangkok reduced from 13 weekly to 7 from July, Delhi-Kuala Lumpur reduced from 10 weekly to 5; Delhi-Ho Chi Minh City reduced from 7 to 4 in July and August; Delhi-Hanoi reduced from 5 weekly to 4 in July and August, Delhi-Kathmandu reduced from 42 weekly to 28 in June, and further to 21 weekly in July and August, Delhi-Dhaka reduced from 7 to 4; Mumbai-Colombo: reduced from 7 to 4; Delhi-Colombo: reduced from 14 to 12.

“Air India continues to work closely with the regulators, airport authorities, and industry partners to restore full capacity as soon as conditions permit, but may make further adjustments to its network, should the extraordinary operating environment prevail,” the airline said in a statement.
