Mangaluru: Several parts of coastal Karnataka received moderate to heavy pre-monsoon showers during the 24 hours between 8.30 am on May 12 and 8.30 am on May 13, with Dakshina Kannada district recording the highest rainfall in the state, according to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC).
Marodi in Belthangady taluk of Mangaluru district recorded the highest rainfall of 98 mm between 8.30 am on May 12 and 8.30 am on May 13. Other areas in the Dakshina Kannada district that witnessed heavy showers include Bala with 75 mm, Padil with 72.5 mm, Kukkipadi in Bantwal taluk with 69 mm, and Kotekar and Pandeshwar recording 67 mm each.
In Udupi district, Hebri recorded 53.6 mm of rainfall, while Shivapura in Karkala taluk received 42.5 mm. In Uttara Kannada district, Kangod and Kolsirsi in Siddapur taluk recorded 47 mm each.
The KSNDMC said fairly widespread rainfall was recorded in three districts — Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, and Dharwad — while scattered rainfall activity was reported in six districts, including Udupi, Shivamogga, Belagavi, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, and Haveri.
Isolated rainfall was recorded in Koppal, Gadag, Vijayapura, Vijayanagara, Bagalkote, Davanagere, Kalaburagi, Mysuru, Hassan, Raichur, Chitradurga, and Yadgir. Dry weather conditions prevailed in Bengaluru Urban, Mandya, Tumakuru, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapura, Bidar, Bengaluru Rural, Ramanagara, Kolar, and Ballari districts.
According to KSNDMC data, Karnataka received 54 mm of cumulative pre-monsoon rainfall between March 1 and May 12 against the normal rainfall of 62 mm, registering a 13 per cent deficit. South Interior Karnataka recorded a 34 per cent rainfall deficit during the period, while North Interior Karnataka registered 14 per cent excess rainfall.
The weather agency has forecast scattered light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms across the state till May 14 morning, with heavy rainfall likely at isolated places.
