New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear on May 14 an application filed by Rani Kapur seeking restraint orders in a dispute over the RK Family Trust.

A Bench of Justices J.B. Pardiwala and Ujjal Bhuyan agreed to list the matter after it was mentioned, while orally observing, “Looks like we have entered into an arena where Mahabharata will look very small.”

The application seeks directions to restrain Priya Kapur and others from interfering with the functioning of the trust and related companies during ongoing mediation proceedings.

Rani Kapur has alleged that attempts are being made to assume control over companies and assets linked to the family estate and raised apprehensions of possible transfer or alienation of assets during the mediation period.

Earlier, on May 7, the apex court had appointed former Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud as mediator in the dispute between the parties.

The court had directed both sides to participate in mediation with an open mind and advised them against making public statements or using social media, noting that an early resolution would be in the interest of all parties.

The interim application will be taken up while mediation proceedings remain underway.
