Mariah Carey has been hitting the headlines as a recent post showed Justin Bieber’s explosive comment on her. To mention, Justin and Mariah professionally collaborated and with the recent alleged comments thing started to get intensified. It so happened that on Mariah’s post, Justin’s comment showed that he accused her of killing her sister and mom for the Illuminati.

Another post made rounds, which was shown as Mariah’s comment, wherein she allegedly wrote that she, at least, didn’t join Diddy’s parties. While this has sparked a buzz around, both of these posts are only fabricated and hold no truth to them. Justin or Mariah didn’t comment on these fabricated posts, but the latter’s strained relationship with her sister and mother also came to focus. So, amid the false posts, let’s have a look at the truth that Mariah revealed about her mom and her sister.

Mariah Carey spent time with her mom before passing: What kind of strained relationship did they have?

It was in 2024, when Mariah Carey lost her mother and sister on the same day. During one of her appearances on CBS Mornings, Mariah said that her first album since 2018, after the passing of her mom and sister, was tough for her. In the same conversation, she mentioned that she had no idea how she processed it, yet she somehow navigated. She also mentioned that she had a very ‘interesting’ relationship with her mother, Patricia Carey, an Opera singer.

Time and again, Mariah acknowledged her mom’s contribution to making her fall in love with the world of music. However, in her memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, she described her relationship with her mom as full of contradictions and competing realities, the kind which was not black-and-white but a whole rainbow of emotions. There is no denying the fact that Mariah’s first inspiration was her mom, Patricia, however, she experienced a tough equation, something she described as:

“A prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration and disappointment.”

Mariah Carey’s relationship with her sister, Alison

Even though Mariah had a strained relationship with her mom, towards the end, she got close to Patricia. She revealed that she felt good about this, while stating that it was extremely tough. Mariah also shared that her mom told her something which healed something. She further talked about her sister, Alison, while mentioning that they hadn’t met each other for years. To mention, reports claimed that Mariah and her sister, Alison, haven’t seen each other since 1994. The singer further mentioned that she tends to feel bad for everything as she has a guilt complex.

Speaking about her relationship with her sister, Mariah, in her memoir, she revealed that at a certain point in her life, she felt that it would be safer emotionally and physically to stay away from her sister. She also described Alison as someone broken and brilliant, who exposed her to men and drugs. She expressed her pain while stating that an elder sister (Alison is eight years older) is meant to protect, not to ‘pimp you out’. She also revealed how Alison threw hot tea on her, which burnt her back, in a way that she couldn’t even recognise it. She said:

“Alison has burned me in many ways and more times than I can count…he promise of her life was squandered in a tragic series of cheap bargains rather than being redeemed through the difficult, lifelong work of recovery and rebuilding oneself.”

Alison even sued Mariah for everything she said about her in her memoir. In 2021, she sued her sister, claiming that the difficulties stemmed from a difficult childhood and a horrible night during her pre-teen years when she had to attend a terrifying middle-of-the-night satanic worship meeting, ‘included a ritual sacrifice and sexual activity,” which was held by their mother. Eventually, it led her to PTSD, anxiety, depression, and other severe health problems.
