MAFS star Mel Schilling dies

Married At First Sight fans have been left in tears after the series issued a fresh Mel Schilling tribute.

The late MAFS icon tragically died in March, aged just 54, following a battle with cancer. She had already filmed her final season on the Australian version of the dating show, which was still airing for UK viewers.

The series has now come to an end, with Channel 4 issuing a bittersweet tribute to the beloved relationship guru. Just before the credits rolled in Thursday’s (May 14) finale, a series of clips of Mel’s time on the show began playing.

Mel could be heard speaking in a voiceover, which included snippets of advice she has offered contestants over the years.

In one clip, she explained that MAFS is more than just a dating experiment. “Yes this experiment is about finding love but there’s also another very important stream that runs through this experiment,” Mel said.

“It is about personal development. It is about finding your worth. It is about learning to find your voice and to start really believing that you deserve love.”

Another heart-warming segment featured fellow expert John Aiken asking Mel about her husband, Gareth Brisbane.

She explained: “He says I’m his soulmate. He says he can stop looking because he’s found me.”

In the final seconds of the tribute, Mel can be heard sharing words of support with the show’s contestants.

“Thank you so much for your time in this experiment. For your courage, your authenticity, we salute you and wish you all the best and all the happiness in the world,” she said.

The segment moved viewers at home, with one writing on X: “Beautiful tribute at the end for Mel RIP beautiful lady #MAFSAU.”

Another emotional viewer added: “Absolutely sobbing at the tribute for Mel. It’s not going to be the same not seeing her on our screens anymore. Sweet dreams beautiful lady #mafsau #mafsaustralia.”

While a third penned: “watching tonight’s #MAFS #MAFSau knowing it’s the last time we’ll have the beautiful mel schilling on our screens was heart wrenching.. the tribute at the end had me sobbing. some people just radiate human sunshine, she was one of them life can be so incredibly unfair.”
