Gold Silver Rate Today: Gold and silver prices declined sharply on Friday, with both precious metals coming under pressure in domestic and international markets amid continued strength in the US dollar index.
On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold futures for June 5 delivery dropped as much as 1.52 per cent, or Rs 2,478, to hit an intraday low of Rs 1,59,500 around 10:45 am. Silver witnessed steeper losses, with July 3 futures tumbling 4.12 per cent, or Rs 12,000, to Rs 2,79,102.
At the last count, gold was trading at Rs 1,59,792, lower by Rs 2,186 or 1.34 per cent. During the session, the yellow metal touched an intraday high of Rs 1,60,992, still below the previous close.
Silver, meanwhile, was quoted at Rs 2,80,091, down 3.78 per cent or Rs 11,011. The white metal had earlier climbed to an intraday high of Rs 2,83,219 before extending losses.
The weakness was also reflected in overseas markets. COMEX gold fell 1.54 per cent to $4,615 per ounce, while COMEX silver slipped 4.47 per cent to $81.49 per ounce.
Commodity market experts said bullion prices remained under pressure as persistent US inflation strengthened expectations that the US Federal Reserve may keep interest rates higher for longer. Elevated rates tend to reduce the appeal of non-yielding assets such as gold and silver.
Analysts added that geopolitical tensions in West Asia and disruptions to energy shipments through the Strait of Hormuz have intensified inflation worries and boosted the US dollar, further weighing on precious metals.
Despite Friday’s decline, experts noted that silver continues to receive long-term support from industrial demand linked to sectors such as electronics and solar energy.
Meanwhile, crude oil prices moved higher, with Brent crude rising 1.57 per cent to $107.38 per barrel and US WTI crude gaining 1.72 per cent to $102.92 per barrel.
