Yellowstone is back with spin-off Dutton Ranch, but what do we know about star Cole Hauser’s real life?
Yellowstone fans are in for a treat this week as brand new spin-off Dutton Ranch returns to screens, continuing the sweeping saga of Rip Wheeler (played by Cole Hauser) and Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly).
After the heartbreaking death of Beth’s father and Rip’s mentor, cattle baron John Dutton (Kevin Costner), the pair opt to forge a fresh start in Texas by acquiring another ranch.
Yet they quickly discover that life down South is anything but straightforward when they encounter the proprietor of a competing ranch, the formidable Beulah Jackson (Annette Bening).
As the acclaimed Western drama makes its long-awaited return today (Friday, 15th May), what can we reveal about its leading stars?
Here’s a glimpse into Cole Hauser’s life beyond the spotlight, featuring some facts that may catch you off guard, reports Wales Online.
Early life and career
Cole Hauser was born to Cass and Wings Hauser in Santa Barbara, California in 1975, making him 51 years old.
Though he was subsequently brought up mainly in Oregon and, much like his legendary character Rip, devoted considerable time to a 1,500-acre ranch on the outskirts of Eugene.
He relocated there aged two following his parents’ separation, subsequently reconnecting with his father, who sparked his interest in acting, at 15.
Having wowed audiences with standing ovations during his performance in the play Dark of the Moon, he departed high school at just 16 to chase his acting ambitions, swiftly securing his debut film role in School Ties. The 1991 production introduced audiences to a host of emerging talents, including Brendan Fraser, Matt Damon, Chris O’Donnell and Ben Affleck.
He subsequently reunited with both Damon and Affleck in Good Will Hunting, collaborated with Affleck alone in Dazed and Confused, and also portrayed a neo-Nazi skinhead in Higher Learning.
Ties to entertainment industry
Hauser’s father Wings, who fostered his passion for acting, was a lesser-known yet accomplished screen star in his own right. Boasting appearances in over 100 TV and film projects, he has been dubbed “the biggest star you’ve never heard of”.
Wings himself was the son of writer and producer Dwight Hauser, who crafted numerous scripts for Disney but was blacklisted as a Communist during Hollywood’s McCarthy era.
Meanwhile, Hauser’s connections to the film industry through his mother Cass run even deeper, as one of his maternal great-grandfathers was Harry Warner, a founding partner of the still running movie studio Warner Bros. Cass established production company Warner Sisters in 2003.
Additionally, Cass’s father was screenwriter Milton Sperling, who wrote several acclaimed Second World War films, including 1965’s Battle of the Bulge.
Nearly two decades of marriage
Hauser wed photographer and actress Cynthia Daniel in 2006, having first met and dated during the 1990s. They’ll be celebrating an impressive 20-year milestone this December, having built a family with three children: sons Ryland and Colt, alongside daughter Steely Rose.
Speaking to Us Weekly in a 2024 interview, Daniel gushed: “My husband is my ’90s crush. “We’ve been together since the ’90s.” And Hauser agreed: “She was my ’90s crush, and still is to this day.”
The Yellowstone star credits “listening” and “acknowledging” each other as keys to their relationship’s longevity.
Daniel is famous for starring as Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Wakefield in teen series Sweet Valley High, appearing 88 episodes between 1994 and 1997.

Regarding their children, the couple tend to shield them from public attention, although some information has emerged. Their eldest, 21 year old Ryland, is studying at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, where he’s making waves as a student-athlete playing football as tight end, wide receiver and defensive end.
Meanwhile, 17 year old Colt is carving out his own path on the pitch as an offensive lineman for Cardinal Newman High School in West Palm Beach, Florida, and has already begun attracting interest from universities ahead of the 2027 season.
Their youngest, 13 year old Steely Rose, has made appearances on her father’s Instagram, including visits to the Yellowstone set. Hauser has lovingly described her as “the future” and “as beautiful as the sunset”, sparking whispers that she might pop up in the show at some stage.
