Even though the FIFA World Cup final is over a month away, it has already been generating a lot of buzz. For those unaware, the final is scheduled for July 19, 2026, at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. One of the reasons fans are excited about the World Cup final, apart from the game, of course, is its never-before-seen halftime show. Some of the biggest names in music, including Shakira, Madonna, and South Korean boyband, BTS, will headline the performance.
How much will Shakira, Madonna, and BTS get paid for performing at FIFA’s first-ever halftime show?
For the uninitiated, it is none other than Chris Martin, the frontman of Coldplay, who is in charge of curating the halftime show that FIFA president, Gianni Infantino called “a show befitting the biggest sporting event in the world” in a statement last year. The show will reportedly be produced by Global Citizen. Now, coming to the question that most of you might be wondering: how much are Shakira, Madonna, and BTS going to earn from performing at FIFA’s biggest-ever halftime spectacle? Interestingly, the answer to this is zero. None of them is going to earn a single dollar.

Sources connected to Global Citizen revealed that the organisation producing the show alongside Chris Martin, Shakira, Madonna, and BTS will be donating their time for the event. Additionally, sources also confirmed to The Athletic that they will also raise funds to support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund’s goal of raising USD 100 million for children’s education worldwide.

It is worth noting that FIFA’s World Cup acts on a ‘no-fee’ concept that is similar to the NFL’s Super Bowl halftime performers receiving no money. This year, during the Super Bowl in February 2026, Bad Bunny, who headlined the halftime show, performed without a paycheque. The same was done by Kendrick Lamar last year. To put it plainly, the artists do so because the exposure that comes with performing in these halftime shows is worth more than any fee. This year’s Super Bowl itself drew a huge domestic viewership of 125.6 million. Meanwhile, the 2022 World Cup final, which was held between Argentina and France, had a global reach of 1.42 billion.

The aforementioned numbers are exactly why all these artists are more than eager to perform even without being paid. Coming to the performers, Shakira has already dropped her new World Cup anthem featuring Burna Boy on May 15, 2026. She is no stranger to the stage, having performed Waka Waka at the 2010 tournament in South Africa. Fans will also be happy to know that Madonna will be releasing her 15th studio album, Confessions II, just days ahead of the World Cup final, on July 3, 2026. BTS, on the other hand, is currently midway through an 85-date world tour. This is their full comeback after completing the mandatory military service in South Korea.
