Nellore: In the quiet village of Chintala Cheruvu in Nandyal district’s Chagalamarri mandal, two sisters are redefining the meaning of courage, determination and possibility.

Born with deformities in their fingers and having undergone surgeries since childhood, Y. Manisha and Y. Keerthana could easily have chosen to stay away from challenges. Instead, the sisters chose sports grounds, trekking trails and dreams that rose as high as the Himalayas.

Today, their inspiring journey is winning admiration from near and far.

While elder sister Manisha is pursuing Intermediate studies, younger sibling Keerthana studies in Class VIII at ZP high school, Chagalamarri.

Despite their physical limitations, the duo never allowed disability to let them down.

Keerthana recently achieved a remarkable feat by becoming part of a 21-member differently-abled team that successfully trekked the Mount Everest Base Camp from the Nepal side, standing at a breathtaking altitude of 5,364 metres.

Her sporting talent paved the way for this achievement.

Strong performances in district-level long jump, shot put and running competitions earned her a place in the prestigious expedition team. Before heading to the Himalayas, she underwent trekking practice at Gandikota and intensive training in Ladakh.

Out of several participants, 13 boys and eight girls were finally selected for the Everest Base Camp mission — and Keerthana emerged as one of the successful climbers.

“We received tremendous encouragement from education minister Nara Lokesh. He spent time with our team and promised support for our future in sports and education,” Keerthana said with pride.

Meanwhile, Manisha has carved her own success story in baseball, winning medals at the state level with consistent performances.

Their father, farmer Y Bali Reddy, and mother Vijaya Lakshmi have been the pillars of support behind the sisters’ achievements. “Both my daughters are equally good in academics and sports,” Bali Reddy stated proudly.

What makes the sisters’ story extraordinary is not merely the medals or the mountain expedition — it is their refusal to complain, give up or seek sympathy.

From a remote village in Andhra Pradesh to the foothills of the world’s highest peak, Manisha and Keerthana are proving that courage is the stepping stone to success.
