Vijayawada:Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday distributed Rs 306.61 crore as compensation and rehabilitation and resettlement (R&R) assistance to displaced families of the Polavaram Project.
The distribution was done by Naidu during an interaction he held at the CM Camp Office in Amaravati.
The CM also handed over house keys to several beneficiaries in R&R colonies and assured all project-affected families that no injustice would be done to them.
Officials informed the meeting that 62.05 acres had been identified for house site pattas, while 520.02 acres were earmarked under the land-to-land rehabilitation component.
This was the fourth time compensation was disbursed to Polavaram oustees after the TD-led alliance government assumed office. The earlier instalments were released during Sankranti and Deepavali in 2025 and Ugadi this year.
So far, nearly 29,936 displaced persons have received around `2,250 crore under various compensation packages since the coalition government came to power.
During an interaction with the CM, several displaced families expressed their confidence that the project construction and compensation process regained momentum only after the present government took charge. They alleged that the previous government had failed to provide even basic infrastructure such as roads in R&R colonies and neglected flood-hit families during the 2022 floods.
Addressing the gathering, Naidu said it was a matter of satisfaction for him to meet the Polavaram oustees and extend R&R assistance on the occasion of Sir Arthur Cotton Jayanti. He reiterated that the government remained committed both to completing the Polavaram project and safeguarding the interests of the displaced families.
Naidu said farmers sacrificing ancestral lands for projects should never suffer and assured the oustees that the government would enhance livelihoods in tribal constituencies like Polavaram and Rampachodavaram through technology integration and infrastructure development.
The CM also reiterated his long-term vision of interlinking the Godavari, Krishna, Cauvery and even Ganga rivers to eliminate water scarcity across the country. Criticising the YSR Congress government, he alleged that negligence and frequent changes of officials and contractors had damaged the project’s progress.
Naidu asserted that if his government had continued after 2019, the Polavaram project would have been completed by 2020. He said the project had now been brought back on track and would be completed before the 2027 Pushkarams and dedicated to the nation.
