Sara Cox is spending time in Vienna while she covers the Eurovision Song Contest for the BBC, but she has raised eyebrows and been called a “weirdo” for her bizarre kettle hack

Eurovision host Sara Cox has been branded a “weirdo” after she revealed she had cooked asparagus in her hotel kettle. The Radio 2 star is in Vienna where she will host the UK coverage of the competition, which sees European countries battle it out to have their musical entry voted the best.

But Sara’s co-host Rylan Clark wasn’t impressed with her resourceful attempt to get her 5-a-day in, calling her a “weirdo” for using the kettle to boil the green veg. She shared a photo of the inside of the kettle on her Instagram Story, writing: “Was really craving some green veg #eurovision.”

She added that her pal Rylan thinks she’s a weirdo, tagging in both him and the Radio 2 accounts into her post. The pair are counting down to the Eurovision final tonight, which takes place in Vienna, with Sara revealing on Radio 2 that she had been enjoying her time there and had eaten fish and chips in bed.

But while Sara’s asparagus in the kettle trick may seem like a great travel hack, it would be best to follow with caution. Recently, a travel influencer was reportedly sued after sharing a viral post telling her followers they could clean their underwear in their hotel appliances.

Tara Woodcox claimed she had washed her knickers in the coffee maker in her hotel, before drying them with the hairdryer provided in the room. The post sparked fury on social media, with some even going on to suggest she had been slapped with a $1million lawsuit over the incident.

However the social media star went on to deny the claims, adding that she had only made the post to warn travellers against using the appliances in hotel rooms.

Since boiling her asparagus in the kettle, Sara will have been busy preparing for tonight’s big show, which takes place at the Wiener Stadthalle, Vienna. The Austrian city is set to welcome thousands of excited fans, who will be supporting their own countries in the competition.

Look Mum No Computer, whose real name is Sam Battle, will represent the UK with his entry Eins, Zwei, Drei tonight. Being one of the Big Four, the UK is guaranteed a place in the final, as they make one of the largest financial contributions, along with France, Italy and Germany.

Announcing the results for the UK will be drag artist La Voix, who will become the contest’s first “spokesqueen”. The RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star, 46, whose real name is Christopher Dennis, is “over the moon” to play such an integral part of the iconic show.

Having been forced to withdraw from Strictly Come Dancing last year after an injury, La Voix said: “I’m absolutely over the moon to be announcing the UK Jury scores at Eurovision 2026. It’s the one night where sequins are en masse, key changes are compulsory, and absolutely anything can happen – so naturally I feel right at home. I’ll do my best to behave… but no promises.”
