NEW DELHI: An elderly man was penalised for creating nuisance at Kalkaji Metro Station in Delhi after a video alleging that he urinated inside a lift went viral, officials said.
A senior Delhi Metro Police officer said action was taken under Section 59 of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Act.
According to the officer, the man was travelling around 9.40 pm from Jamia Metro Station to Faridabad and faced a medical emergency during an interchange at Kalkaji Metro Station. Unable to locate a toilet facility in time, he relieved himself in a bottle inside the lift.
Passengers present in the lift objected and alerted CISF and DMRC staff, following which the man was penalised.
Authorities said the man suffers from a medical condition related to bladder control and carries a bottle during travel. Considering his condition and the circumstances, no criminal case was registered.
The incident came to light after a video surfaced on social media, in which a woman is seen confronting the man over the act.
