The driver of the third vehicle, a man in his 30s, stopped further along the highway at the Logan Motorway exit. He was speaking with police on Monday night.

Hours later, two other crashes occurred in the northbound lanes of the motorway and it was closed as a result.

Rain was falling for much of the afternoon, and visibility was poor.

Traffic was still backed out for more than 10 kilometres about three hours after the crash. The motorway reopened just after 8:30pm.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has dashcam footage is urged to contact police,” police said.
