Kolkata: The CBI arrested the fifth accused, Vinay Rai, on Tuesday in the murder of Chandranath Rath, the personal assistant of BJP heavyweight Suvendu Adhikari days before he became West Bengal chief minister.
The culprit, who is in his 40s, is a resident of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. He was caught from Ghazipur. Vinay was produced at a local court which granted the CBI to bring him to Bengal on Wednesday on a transit remand.
He is the second person to be nabbed by the CBI in the case. His arrest also came a day after the fourth accused, Rajkumar Singh, was taken into custody by the CBI from UP. Rajkumar was produced at the Barasat Court on Tuesday. He has been remanded in CBI custody for 10 days.
Meanwhile, the police remand of the three other arrested accused— Mayank Raj Mishra, Vicky Maurya, and Raj Singh— was extended by the same court till May 24. They were arrested by the West Bengal Police from Bihar and UP hours before the case was handed over to the CBI.
