Katie Price faces ‘almost impossible’ dilemma when it comes to her marriage with Lee Andrews, claims a psychologist following reports that Lee has been kidnapped
Katie Price’s marriage to Lee Andrews has hit headlines this week following claims from Katie that he has been kidnapped after he failed to make an appearance on Good Morning Britain.
Amid the claims that he is unable to leave Dubai, Katie claimed that in the last FaceTime she had with him, his hands were tied together and a hood had been placed over his face. Katie said he told her: “They’re coming back for me.”
As the baffling saga continues, with close friends of Katie’s claiming he is wanted by Interpol and currently squatting in a run down villa, psychologist Emma Kenny has explained to The Mirror why Katie is facing an impossible situation as she navigates her private relationship amid public speculation.
“For Katie Price, relationships have never existed quietly. Every romance, breakup and reconciliation has unfolded under an intense public spotlight, creating a sense that her personal life is constantly being judged in real time,” said Emma explaining why Katie might be keen to make this marriage work despite huge amounts of criticism.
“Because of that history, there’s a feeling that this relationship may carry more emotional weight than others before it. It’s less about desperation in the traditional sense, and more about the understandable desire to finally find something stable after years of very public ups and downs. When someone has repeatedly had their heartbreak dissected by headlines and social media, the pressure to make the next chapter work can become enormous , not just privately, but publicly too.”
The Dubai-based businessman Katie in January, just two weeks after they had met, with Katie immediately warned off the business man, with claims he is a con man. Emma explained that although Katie has been cautioned about Lee for months, this kidnapping story has escalated the situation, adding extra pressure on the star, and putting her in an “impossible” situation.
“The speculation surrounding Lee and Katie’s claims that he has been kidnapped has obviously increased that pressure. These days, any interesting, story can evolve instantly online, with theories, criticism and commentary spreading before the full picture is even known. For someone like Katie, who has spent decades living in the public eye, that creates an almost impossible balancing act.
“If she stays silent, rumours grow louder. If she speaks out emotionally, every word will be scrutinised. Which means the situation stops being purely personal and instead becomes part of a wider public conversation, which will likely shape the way she reacts and processes events. The emotional strain of that kind of attention can easily heighten feelings of fear, panic or urgency,” she said.
Emma explained that because of Katie’s several high profile relationships over the years – the former glamour model has been married four times and engaged nine times – there may come a time where stepping out of the spotlight is the only way the star can “protect” herself.
“What makes Katie’s situation particularly complicated is that the public often feels as though they already know her story. Over the years, she has become associated with resilience, chaos, reinvention, downfall and survival all at once. That means people project their own assumptions onto her relationships, some viewing her sympathetically, others critically. But behind the headlines is still a person trying to navigate uncertainty while millions watch from the sidelines.
“Eventually, moving on from an experience like this may depend on Katie creating more distance between her personal healing and the public narrative surrounding her. After so many years of living emotionally in public, there may come a point where protecting her peace becomes more important than explaining herself. That could mean leaning more heavily on close family and trusted friends, focusing on stability in everyday life, and becoming more guarded about what she shares publicly. Though equally, when your income relies on your exposure it can be a difficult balance to strike.”
She concluded: “Whether someone who seems to have been addicted to being famous her entire adult life can ever truly step away from the spotlight is a decision only she can make. “
Amid the whole ordeal, Katie has been quick to slam those who have suggested that the whole thing is simply a publicity stunt. In a recent video, Katie faced the camera and began by talking about how hard she was finding the current situation.
She said: “Hey everyone, I’m here to do an update about Lee. This is a really difficult time for me at the moment. It’s been five days since I’ve heard anything from Lee. None of his family have heard anything, his dad is out in Dubai and he’s heard nothing.”
Katie said that they had reported Lee as missing to the British Embassy – the Foreign Office have confirmed they are “supporting the family of a British man” – and that her “anxiety levels are sky high”.
“It’s been 6 days please help find him,” she added on her Instagram story on Tuesday night in her latest update to her followers.
