
Udupi: A 26-year-old alleged drug peddler from Udupi was detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act following his repeated involvement in narcotics-related offences.
The detained accused has been identified as Abdul Rouf, a resident of Doddannagudde under Udupi Town police station limits.
Police said that based on a report submitted by Udupi Superintendent of Police seeking preventive detention against the accused, the detention order was issued by the Western Range Inspector General of Police on May 18.
According to police, Abdul Rouf has several criminal cases registered against him in Udupi district and Bengaluru in connection with drug trafficking, sale and consumption of narcotic substances.
Cases related to transportation and sale of drugs have been registered against him at Manipal police station, Udupi Town police station and Soladevanahalli police station in Bengaluru. In addition, two separate cases relating to consumption of narcotic substances were registered against him at Manipal police station.
Police said the three drug trafficking cases are presently under trial before the court, while the accused has already been convicted in two drug consumption cases. The order has been issued to lodge at Vijayapura Central Prison.
