While attendance isn’t mandatory at this stage of the offseason program, Herbert’s absence stands out as the Chargers install a new offense under offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel.

The team is also working in multiple free agents and rookies on Herbert’s side of the ball, making these early reps important for building chemistry, timing, and cohesion on a unit that will likely feature four new starters.

With only three quarterbacks on the roster, backups Trey Lance and DJ Uiagalelei have been taking the bulk of first-team reps in his place.

Herbert is coming off a 2025 season in which he absorbed 54 sacks, among the highest totals for any qualified quarterback. He was still able to produce 3,727 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and a 66.4% completion rate. His efficiency metrics remained solid despite the pressure, and expectations remain high heading into 2026.

Oddsmakers continue to reflect that belief.

Los Angeles enters the season with a 9.5 win total at DraftKings and the seventh-best odds to win the Super Bowl. Herbert also sits among the early MVP contenders, listed around +1000 alongside Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes, while Josh Allen leads the board at approximately +550.

Off the field, Herbert’s connection to pop artist Madison Beer has been highly publicized. Beer is currently in the middle of her European leg of her “Locket Tour,” with stops in Berlin on May 19th, as well as, Amsterdam and Paris later this week.
