Rumours suggesting that Prabhas-starrer Salaar 2 has been shelved are completely false. Director Prashanth Neel remains fully committed to completing the epic action thriller franchise.
‘Salaar 2 will probably release in 2028-29’
Speculation around the sequel began after Neel’s recent interview, where some of his comments were misinterpreted. The filmmaker had mentioned that any new idea coming to him would now be dedicated to Dragon, his upcoming film with Jr NTR. Since he is currently deeply immersed in that project, many assumed Salaar 2 was no longer a priority. However, Neel clarified to Variety that it is actually KGF 3 that is not on the cards right now. He confirmed that Salaar 2 will begin immediately after Dragon is completed. According to the director, the sequel will likely hit theatres in 2028 or 2029.

Interestingly, Neel also revealed that he wants to move away from the heavily desaturated, high-contrast visual style seen in KGF and Salaar. Released in late 2023, Salaar dominated the early 2024 box office cycle. Set in the dystopian city-state of Khansaar, the action drama explored the intense friendship between Deva (Prabhas) and Varadha (Prithviraj Sukumaran). When ministers plotted a violent coup against Varadha, he sought Deva’s help to reclaim power. Themes of betrayal, loyalty, and brutal action resonated strongly with audiences, helping the film build a loyal fan base.
What’s next for Prabhas?
Before returning to Salaar 2, Prabhas is expected to complete Fauzi, Spirit, and Kalki 2. Only a few weeks of action sequences remain for Fauzi. Meanwhile, Spirit and Kalki 2, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Nag Ashwin respectively, are currently being shot in Hyderabad. Kalki 2 also features Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan in key roles.
