Indianapolis Motor Speedway is honoring the late NASCAR racer Kyle Busch.

A memorial to Busch is being displayed Friday at the venue on the famous scoring pylon after he died Thursday at 41.

“Everyone at Indianapolis Motor Speedway is heartbroken to learn of the passing of Kyle Busch. Kyle was one of the most dominant racers in IMS history,” J. Douglas Boles, the president of the racetrack, said in a statement Thursday. “He was a fan favorite loved for his competitive spirit and passion. He understood what racing and winning at Indianapolis means.

“Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his wife, Samantha, children Brexton and Lennix, the entire Busch family, Richard Childress Racing, and the entire NASCAR family.”

The move gives spectators celebrating the famous Carb Day at the track ahead of Sunday’s Indianapolis 500 a chance to honor the famed racer follow his shocking death.

Busch’s family announced Thursday he had been hospitalized with a “severe illness” and would not be participating in the Coca-Cola 600 on Saturday at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

A cause of death is not yet known, though Busch had been suffering from a sinus cold, made worse by g-forces and elevation changes at Watkins Glen nearly two weeks ago.

Busch appeared on the Indianapolis track countless times, winning six events at the hallowed 2.5-mile course.

He won the Brickyard 400 back-to-back in 2015 and 2016. In those same years, he also finished first in the respective NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race the day before.

Busch made his 700th career Cup Series start at the Brickyard 400 in 2024.

The racetrack is gearing up for the Indianapolis 500 this Sunday, which will draw racing fanatics from across the country. Many will remember the dominance that Busch displayed on the racetrack throughout his 21-year racing career.

Busch, in all three NASCAR traveling competitions, crossed the checkered line first 234 times, the most by any competitor. Only the legend Richard Petty also won more than 200 races.

Busch captured a pair of NASCAR championships during his career in 2015 and 2019.

He is also the only racer to win at least one Cup Series race in 19 consecutive years, from 2005-23.
