Vijayapura: About a week after the Karnataka government’s decision to allow wearing of hijab in educational institutions triggered sharp criticism from the BJP and saffron organisations, another move by the Congress government has sparked fresh political controversy, with Hindutva leaders accusing the ruling party of pursuing “appeasement politics”.
Bijapur City MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal on Friday criticised the Congress government for deciding to withdraw cases related to the 2022 violence at the Ladle Mashak Dargah in Aland.
In a post on X, Yatnal stated that the decision was taken during the state Cabinet meeting held on Thursday and termed the move “unconstitutional” and politically motivated.
Yatnal alleged that large-scale violence had taken place at the dargah in 2022 and claimed that miscreants had desecrated a Shivling during the incident. He accused the government of attempting to portray the accused as “innocent” and alleged that it was misusing its powers to pardon those involved in rioting, communal violence, vandalism and attacks on government officials.
“Hindus will never forgive this decision taken to appease minorities. Withdrawal of 13 cases linked to the incident amounted to an illegal exercise of power,” Yatnal said in his post, while alleging that the Congress government was trying to strengthen its vote bank through such decisions.
According to him, the Cabinet should have focused on developmental issues instead of taking decisions aimed at political appeasement.
BJP state president BY Vijayendra stated that the Congress government has crossed all limits of appeasement!
“This shameful. Congress government’s despicable vote-bank politics and the shameless display of extreme minority appeasement have now made the state a witness. Without even the barest sense of responsibility, throwing ethics and honor to the winds, this Tughlaq Congress government has crossed all boundaries of civility,” he stated in a post on X.
Vijayendra also gave details about the incident in the post.
“By brazenly releasing such serious anti-social criminal miscreants who disrupted society’s peace, what message are you sending to society, Chief Ministers? Does this Congress government retain even the slightest respect for Hindu dharma, the slightest sensitivity to the pain inflicted on the Hindu psyche, or the bare minimum regard for law and order?” he questioned.
“The report recommending the withdrawal of these vile miscreant cases has been personally endorsed by none other than the honorable Speaker of the Legislative Assembly UT Khader himself, who ought to uphold the spirit of the Constitution—this is not just more regrettable but a betrayal of democracy!,” he stated.
On its official X handle, state BJP defined this decision as ‘disgusting.’
“Karnataka government hits a new low of shielding criminals for its clumsy vote-bank politics by withdrawing cases against those who desecrated the Holy Shivling. Even DC, SP had come under attack from these dreaded rioters!,” the post stated.
“Shameful that Karnataka Government doesn’t carry any iota of Shame in suppressing the rule of Law and going against the Constitution,” it added.
