Man Beats Wife To Death To Claim ₹1 Cr Insurance

A 30-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband at Golthanda village of Tirumalayapalem mandal in Khammam district in the early hours of Friday. The victim, Banothu Meenakshi, was later found hanging from the ceiling in her house under suspicious circumstances.

According to police, Meenakshi’s husband, Shivaji, claimed that she died by suicide after hanging herself in a room of their house. However, her relatives alleged that Shivaji had assaulted her and later tried to portray the death as a suicide.
Meanwhile, a video showing Shivaji allegedly physically assaulting Meenakshi surfaced on social media and went viral. Shivaji reportedly claimed that the video was old and unrelated to his wife’s death.
Meenakshi and Shivaji had been married for nearly 14 years and were living in Golthanda village with their two sons, aged 13 and 9 years.
The victim’s parents alleged that Shivaji had taken a housing loan of `70 lakh for construction of a house and that Meenakshi had an insurance coverage of `1 crore. They suspected that he planned the murder to clear the loan using the insurance amount. Tirumalayapalem Sub-Inspector K. Jagdish said a case was registered based on the complaint lodged by Meenakshi’s parents and investigation is underway.

Businessman held for ₹77.5 lakh fraud

Goshamahal police arrested a 54‑year‑old businessman for cheating a city resident of ₹77.5 lakh by luring him into an electronics business with promises of high returns. The accused was identified as Chandan Singh alias Shamji alias Lalaji, a resident of Begum Bazaar. Two others, Pankaj Jain and Ajit Jayantilal Shah, are absconding.

Police said complainant Mohammed Zakkeria Shaikh was induced by Singh through associate Shaik Omer Javeed to invest in the business. Singh initially gained his confidence by returning earlier investments with profit. Believing the proposal genuine, Shaikh transferred ₹77.5 lakh online to Ajit Trading, Mumbai, after being assured repayment within two days.

After receiving the money, the accused went incommunicado. Singh even moved to Rajasthan to evade repayment and later threatened the complainant with dire consequences when he demanded his money back.

Based on a complaint lodged on April 14, Goshamahal police registered a case under sections of cheating, criminal breach of trust, criminal intimidation and conspiracy. Investigators also found suspected links to hawala transactions. Singh was arrested and produced before court on Thursday, which remanded him to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway.

Driver held for fleeing with ₹9.63 lakh

Sultan Bazaar police on Friday arrested a driver who fled earlier this week with over ₹9.63 lakh collected from firms for bank deposit. The accused, Shaik Rahman, 46, of Bowenpally, was caught in Kalburagi, Karnataka. Police recovered ₹9,53,760 in cash, a mobile phone, a blue travel bag and a vehicle key.

The incident occurred on May 19 when cash custodians of Cleared Security Services Pvt Ltd, accompanied by a gunman and driver Rahman, were collecting money from business establishments.

At 2.20 pm, the team reached a bank branch at Koti to deposit the cash. While two custodians entered the bank with part of the money and the gunman stepped away briefly, Rahman allegedly fled with the vehicle carrying cash bags.

The vehicle was later found abandoned near King Koti district hospital, with two cash bags missing. Using technical tracking, police traced Rahman to a guest house near Gulbarga bus stand and arrested him.

TV anchor files complaint over online harassment

Television anchor Vishnu Priya lodged a complaint with Miyapur police alleging harassment through obscene and defamatory content circulated against her on social media.

Police said she named individuals running YouTube channels and social media pages who allegedly tarnished her reputation with objectionable posts. She expressed concern that such content was not only affecting her public image but also crossing acceptable boundaries of online behaviour.

In her complaint, she stated that remarks were being made about her account subscriptions and personal matters, which she described as inappropriate and defamatory. She urged police to initiate strict legal action against those responsible for spreading offensive material and attempting to malign her image. She also noted that similar derogatory comments were being made against other celebrities.

Vishnu Priya submitted details of the social media accounts along with screenshots of posts and comments as evidence. Based on her complaint, Miyapur police registered a case and began an investigation to identify those behind the offensive content. Further inquiry is underway.

ED Issues Fresh Summons to IAS Officer Amoy Kumar in Bhoodan Land Scam

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) issued fresh notices to former Rangareddy collector Amoy Kumar, currently joint secretary in the animal husbandry and veterinary department, directing to him to appear before investigators on May 25 in connection with the alleged Bhoodan land irregularities case in Maheshwaram mandal of Rangareddy district.

Kumar was summoned earlier in the same matter and was questioned for multiple days by ED officials in October 2024 and in November 2025.

The ED is seeking details relating to land transactions, sale deeds, bank accounts and asset particulars as part of the ongoing money laundering probe. Officials were probing alleged irregularities in registration of Bhoodan land parcels in Nagaram including changes made in records in the Dharani land portal of the BRS government tenure and registrations involving land listed under prohibited categories.

The ED was probing allegations that during Amoy Kumar’s tenure as Rangareddy collector, Bhoodan land were allegedly transferred to private individuals, with investigators suspecting large financial transactions linked to the process. Officials are also examining allegations that prohibited lands were registered and passbooks issued following modifications in official land records.

Clash Over Disputed Madhapur Land; Owner Claims Threats in YS Sharmila’s Name

Tension prevailed in Madhapur on Friday after a clash broke out between two groups over a disputed land parcel in Ayyappa Society under the Survey of India limits. Both the groups fled from the spot before the police arrived. A case was registered at Madhapur police station and an investigation is underway.

Landowner Pallepu Narsing Rao alleged that he and his family were being threatened by certain individuals using the name of APCC chief Y.S. Sharmila. Addressing the media, he claimed that unidentified persons allegedly trespassed into the disputed property, demolished a few portions of the compound wall and damaged CCTV cameras installed on the premises.

According to Narsing Rao, his family purchased 1,200 square yards of land in 1996 from the general power of attorney holder of a society, with 600 square yards each registered in the names of Pushpalatha and Chandrakala. He claimed the land had undergone LRS regularisation in 2008 and that government documents, electricity bills and lease records were available to establish ownership.

The complainant added that a person identified as Ramarao had been claiming ownership of the land for the past year and accused individuals, including Surender Reddy and Rajagopal Reddy, of allegedly threatening him. He claimed a board bearing Y.S. Sharmila’s name was installed at the site and that he was being pressured to visit her office.

Hyderabad: Painter Found Murdered in Jawaharnagar; Woman’s Body Recovered from Hussainsagar

In two separate incidents, police recovered the bodies of an unidentified young woman from Hussainsagar and a middle-aged man from a house in Jawaharnagar on Thursday.

Jawaharnagar police recovered the decomposed body of a man identified as Anil Kumar, aged between 40 and 45 years, from a house in Gabbilalapet, Donda Thota area.
Police said they received information through Dial 100 about a body lying in suspicious circumstances inside a house. During preliminary inquiry, locals informed police that the deceased worked as a painter and had been staying there with friends for the past few months. Clues team and dog squad personnel inspected the scene and found bloodstains around the body and head injuries, raising suspicion of murder. Police suspect unidentified persons attacked him with sticks around four days ago. Police registered a case based on a complaint lodged by house owner Ashok, and started investigations.
Elsewhere, Lake police found the body of an unidentified woman in Hussainsagar Tank Bund at around 4 pm. Police suspect the deceased to be aged between 20 and 25 years. The body was shifted for postmortem examination and efforts are underway to establish her identity.
Police said information has been shared with police stations across the city and officials are verifying missing person cases to trace her family members. Authorities appealed to the public to contact Lake police on 8712661598 if they have any information regarding the woman’s identity.

NRI senior citizen protests land transfer error

An 85‑year‑old NRI, Ravishankar of Shivanagar village, staged a protest in front of the Jinnaram Tahsildar office on Friday, appealing for justice in Sangareddy district.

The US‑based NRI alleged that his 14 guntas of land had been wrongly transferred to another name and not rectified despite repeated appeals. He said he purchased the land in Survey No. 172 in 2007 and obtained a passbook, but later learnt that revenue officials had registered it in the name of one Mallamma.

Ravishankar, who returned to India after learning of the error, said his visa would expire in June but vowed to continue his fight until the land was restored in his name. He ended his protest after RDO Rajender responded and promised to resolve the issue within two days.
