Yet another 90 Day Fiancé couple may officially be heading towards heartbreak. After four years of marital bliss and starting a family, reality star Patrick Mendes has filed for divorce from his wife, Thais Ramone, and fans can already sense tensions brewing between them regarding custody.

Why are Patrick Mendes and Thais Ramone separating?

TMZ first reported the news of the separation. According to court documents obtained by the outlet, Patrick filed for divorce earlier this week, citing “incompatibility” as the reason behind the separation. Following the filing of the divorce, a representative for the couple released a statement on their behalf, urging fans not to jump to conclusions. Their statement reads:

“Out of respect for everyone involved, we believe it’s important not to jump to conclusions or contribute to speculation before all facts are properly clarified. Domestic matters can be deeply emotional and complex, and we encourage compassion, privacy, and due process for all parties involved.”

The estranged couple, who share a daughter together, stated that their main focus at the moment is to ensure their family’s safety without complicating things. As the proceedings will go on, they ask for privacy and understanding. The statement concludes by saying:

“Our focus right now is simply ensuring that everyone is safe and supported. We appreciate the public’s understanding and ask for respect regarding their family and personal privacy during this time.”

Apart from a few disputes here and there, Patrick and Thais seemed to have a happy and prosperous relationship over the years. Patrick, a former weightlifting champion, met Thais, a Brazilian model, when he was visiting Brazil to reconnect with his father’s family. He was apparently looking for someone to teach him Portuguese on a dating app when he swiped right on Thais, and they became a match.

After their first meeting, the pair felt connected, and in the year that followed, they had a whirlwind romance. They made their long-distance relationship work, with Patrick reportedly taking several international trips in the first year. After about 11 months together, Patrick proposed, and Thais’ response was an immediate “Yes.” 

However, their journey to marriage had been anything but smooth. When Thais decided to move to the U.S. to live with Patrick, she kept her move a secret from her father, Carlos, until the very last minute. Carlos strongly disapproved of the relationship and initially refused to give Patrick his blessing. Even after moving to America, Thais heavily clashed with Patrick’s older brother, John McManus, who lived with them in Texas.

There was also a trust issue; after Thais found out Patrick had been unfaithful early in their dating phase, she struggled to trust him again. And the fact that Patrick kept his financial details hidden from her only added to the doubt. However, the couple eventually married in February 2022 and later welcomed their daughter, Aleesi, in November that same year. Well, one of the biggest revelations from the filing is Patrick’s request for sole legal custody and primary physical custody of the couple’s 3-year-old daughter, Aleesi Ramone Mendes. Aleesi had reportedly been with Patrick since May 6, 2026, at a separate address away from the home he previously shared with Thais.

Patrick claims that he earns around USD 10,000 per month, while Thais reportedly earn approximately USD 5,000 monthly, and the former is reportedly not seeking child support or spousal support. However, the reality star is requesting ownership of several shared assets, including their Honda Ridgeline, a Fidelity 401K worth USD 8,000, and even their Tempur-Pedic mattress.

What went wrong with Patrick and Thais’ marriage?

Ironically, Patrick and Thaís were also set to appear on the upcoming season of 90 Day Fiancé: The Last Resort, the franchise’s couples therapy spin-off. The show’s synopsis hinted at major tension in their marriage long before the divorce filing became public. According to TLC, the couple has been struggling with financial woes, communication issues, and a lack of intimacy, amid health concerns and disagreements. The show’s synopsis reads:

“The past few years have been difficult for Patrick and Thais, marked by the birth of their daughter, a move to Las Vegas, a failed business, family tragedy, and health issues. As Patrick works to recover financially and emotionally, tensions rise over spending, support, and communication.”

Citing longstanding trust issues that have now escalated to respect issues, TLC further noted that Thais has been frequently travelling overseas to Brazil, without Patrick accompanying her. This has further complicated their relationship, as the estranged couple is struggling to connect. TLC noted:

“A growing lack of intimacy and Thais’s desire to travel to Brazil more frequently, sometimes without Patrick, has further strained their relationship. With trust and respect issues escalating, the couple is struggling to stay connected.”

As of now, neither Patrick nor Thaís has publicly commented directly on the split. Meanwhile, fans are waiting to see whether the custody dispute over Aleesi becomes contentious and how much of their real-life split will eventually play out on 90 Day Fiancé: The Last Resort, which premieres June 1, 2026, on TLC.
