Boy Critically Injured While Trying to Fend Off Dogs in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: A nine-year-old boy sustained serious injuries after reportedly trying to fend off a pack of dogs that surrounded him while he was playing outside his house in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Friday.

The incident took place at Mahanala village under Patapur police station limits when the child, identified as Arish Kumar, was playing in the courtyard of his residence, sources said.
According to family members, more than five dogs suddenly surrounded the boy, following which he attempted to fight them off. In the process, he suffered multiple injuries, including a serious scalp injury.
Hearing his cries for help, family members and local residents rushed to the spot and rescued the child before taking him for treatment.
Arish was initially admitted to Digapahandi hospital. However, considering the severity of his injuries, doctors later referred him to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for advanced treatment. Till the last report came in, doctors of MKCG Medical College had referred the patient to a hospital in Bhubaneswar for advanced treatment.
The incident has triggered concern among villagers over the growing menace of stray dogs and the safety of children playing outdoors. Local residents said such incidents have created fear among families in the area and urged authorities to take appropriate measures to prevent recurrence of similar attacks.
