Producer-director M. S. Raju feels comparisons between S. S. Rajamouli and Prashanth Neel are unnecessary, amid social media discussions suggesting that the Kannada filmmaker is becoming the new favorite among Telugu stars.

“I don’t subscribe to the suggestion of someone replacing someone because every director has his own stature and credibility. Rajamouli has an enviable body of work which no one could achieve,” M.S. Raju said. At the same time, he acknowledged Prashanth Neel’s growing popularity after the buzz around Dragon. “He is a passionate filmmaker who understands how to make pan-India films with stars who have a huge following. Even calling someone a Telugu or Kannada director has become obsolete,” he added.

Both directors have delivered massive blockbusters. While Rajamouli reached global heights with Baahubali and RRR, Prashanth Neel created his own phenomenon with KGF and KGF Chapter 2 along with Salaar.. According to M.S. Raju, Neel’s hero-centric storytelling style is one reason Telugu stars are increasingly interested in collaborating with him.

Reacting to the online comparisons, writer Kona Venkat criticized the negativity on social media. He called attempts to pull down Rajamouli unfair and emphasized that Rajamouli continues to set benchmarks for filmmakers across industries. Kona also highlighted Rajamouli’s upcoming project with Mahesh Babu, calling it one of the most ambitious films attempted in Indian cinema.

Speaking about the pan-India trend, M.S. Raju maintained that Telugu cinema still has huge global potential, citing films like Karthikeya 2 and HanuMan as examples of content-driven success beyond language barriers. He also expressed confidence that his upcoming mystical devotional horror thriller Agadha would connect with audiences across India.
