New details about why Tom Hardy was reportedly sacked from Guy Ritchie’s gangster series MobLand have emerged
Tom Hardy was reportedly axed from Paramount+ series MobLand after his attitude ‘enraged’ co-star Helen Mirren – as new details about his alleged behaviour on the hit series have emerged.
It’s said that the 48-year-old, who plays ‘fixer’ Harry Da Souza in the Guy Ritchie gangster series, will not return for the show’s third series despite having appeared in the first two.
There are claims Tom was often late for filming, tried to change lines, and became frustrated that the series was becoming more about his co-stars Helen, 80, and Pierce Brosnan, 73, who play mob boss Conrad Harrigan and his wife Maeve on the show.
He is also said to have had a number of clashes with producers Jez Butterworth and David Glasser, among others, during the recent production of season two that led to him not being asked to reprise his role in season three.
A source told The Daily Mail’s Katie Hind that Tom’s co-star Helen was apparently less than pleased with Tom’s lateness and attitude when he was on set. It was even claimed he “swaggers around like a King”.
And he’s said to have been found playing games on his phone when he was supposed to be elsewhere, according to reports.
While Tom’s character in the show is charming, it’s said he is “quite the opposite” in real life when the cameras stop rolling.
The source told the publication: “Dame Helen is a joy. She is a total pro and has worked with so many people over the years. But she is getting increasingly frustrated with Tom and his attitude.
“He can be late to filming too and that is annoying for Dame Helen, who is extremely professional and disciplined. His tone is something Dame Helen doesn’t like, along with his lateness. She expects better. She holds people to a high standard. She’s 80. She’s been there and seen it all.
“It feels like Tom is winding her up. There is much chatter that he swaggers around like he’s the king. He is very, very arrogant. It’s a fantastic show and everyone loves working on it. It’s such a shame there is this undertone.”
The frustrations of veteran actor Helen – famous for her roles in films like The Queen, Calendar Girls and The Long Good Friday – are similar to that of Charlize Theron who famously fell out with Tom during the filming of 2015 movie Mad Max: Fury Road.
Tom’s alleged lateness and attitude were again cited as reasons why they clashed. And this is said to have led to a screaming matches between the pair that resulted in Charlize, 50, refusing to be alone with him.
Charlize even had a female producer with her at all times as “protection” as she was “scared s***less’ by “aggressive” Tom, Kyle Buchanan writes in his book Blood, Sweat & Chrome: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road.
Responding to the accusations, Tom said: ‘In hindsight, I was in over my head in many ways. The pressure on both of us was overwhelming at times. What she needed was a better, perhaps more experienced partner in me. That’s something that can’t be faked. I’d like to think that now that I’m older and uglier, I could rise to that occasion.”
He is yet to address the claims made on the set of MobLand that come over a decade later. The Mirror has reached out to reps for Tom and Helen for comment on this story.
