Tirupati: The annual Brahmotsavams of Sri Govindaraja Swamy temple in Tirupati commenced on Saturday with Dhwajarohanam performed amid Vedic chants and Govinda nama smarana.
The sacred Garuda flag was hoisted atop the Dwajasthambam between 7.35 am and 8.49 am, formally inviting Mukkoti Devatas to the nine-day festival.
Earlier, Sri Govindaraja Swamy, along with Sridevi and Bhudevi, accompanied by Chakrathalwar and parivara deities, was taken in a ceremonial procession through the four mada streets.
Special rituals including Vishwaksena Aradhana, Vastu Homam, Garuda Homam and Raksha Bandhanam were performed in the temple. Snapana Tirumanjanam was later conducted to the utsava deities with milk, curd, honey, coconut water, turmeric and sandal paste.
The temple surroundings and mada streets were decorated with colourful illuminations depicting the Dasavataras of Lord Vishnu, including Matsya, Kurma, Varaha, Narasimha, Vamana, Parasurama, Balarama, Sri Rama, Sri Krishna and Kalki avatars. Illuminated forms of Hanuman and Anantha Padmanabha Swamy were also installed at key junctions in Tirupati.
TTD made elaborate arrangements for devotees attending the Brahmotsavams and Vahana Sevas, including floral decorations, rangolis, floodlights, arches, summer shelters and special pandals. Religious, devotional and cultural programmes are also being organised daily under the auspices of Hindu Dharma Prachara Parishad, Annamacharya Project and Dasa Sahitya Project.
In the evening, Unjala Seva and Pedda Sesha Vahana Seva were conducted along the mada streets, attracting large numbers of devotees. Decorative lighting near the railway station, Beri Veedhi and Rayalacheruvu Gate Junction added to the festive atmosphere in the temple town.
