Jeremy Clarkson made the comments while discussing the story of Jenny Parry, a zookeeper who lives with the rare neurological condition hyperfamiliarity for faces (HFF)
Jeremy Clarkson has admitted it “could be worse” as he made a “particularly difficult” admission about his memory. Them presenter’s remarks emerged as he reflected on Jenny Parry’s story, a Scarborough zookeeper living with the rare neurological disorder hyperfamiliarity for faces (HFF).
Sadly for Jenny, her condition causes everyone she meets to feel like an old friend — so much so she can even imagine memories of past chats or a “workplace giggle”, as Clarkson described it.
After learning about Jenny’s situation, Clarkson, 66, appears to have contemplated his own struggles with memory. He revealed that he struggles to recognise people’s faces, which can apparently make for some awkward encounters.
He wrote in The Sun: “It could be worse, though. She could have my problem which is: I can’t remember anyone’s face at all. If the police ever ask me to draw up a photofit picture of a criminal I’ve seen, his boat will look like the full moon.
“This has become particularly difficult now that I’m quite well-known. Because it means that when someone comes up to me on the street, I don’t know whether they’ve seen me on television or whether I’ve known them for 50 years.”
He explained that, at times, this means he might “cut good friends dead” or offer complete strangers a “warm matey embrace”.
This follows Clarkson giving a health update after a recent trailer for his Amazon Prime series, Clarkson’s Farm, showed him being rushed to hospital in an ambulance due to a heart scare.
Speaking on Heart Breakfast, host Jamie Theakston remarked that the former Top Gear presenter “looks very well”, despite the “couple of health scares” he endured.
He replied: “Yes, it’s fat jabs. I look like a Lowry painting. It was quite a fraught year last year, but no. I’m absolutely fine now. Tickety-boo.”
Clarkson’s heart problems, shown in the trailer, began back in 2024. At the time, he received treatment after an artery became “completely blocked”, undergoing heart surgery and having a stent fitted.
His surgery will be discussed in the forthcoming series of Clarkson’s Farm, launching on Prime Video on June 3. In the footage, Jeremy explained to Kaleb Cooper: “You’ve got three arteries that feed your heart to keep it pumping. My heart wasn’t getting any blood.”
Discussing the new series on Heart, he remarked: “It gets more and more dramatic towards the end. I’ll say no more than that because we’re not actually doing any PR for this series at all.
“I thought farming when I first started, what, seven years ago, you just drive around in a Range Rover, went to the pub occasionally and moaned about the weather and then in February went skiing.”
He added that once he “started doing it”, he found that the profession was “unbelievably difficult”.
