Jude Bellingham scored a wonder goal as Real Madrid look to end their disappointing season on a high.
The England international – who was this week included in Thomas Tuchel’s 26-man Three Lions squad for the World Cup – fired in Los Blancos’ second goal against Athletic Club at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Bellingham received the ball on the chest from Thaigo Pitarch’s sublime scooped pass, before unleashing an unstoppable left-footed half-volley that flew high into the net.
It came after Gonzalo Garcia had given the hosts an 11th-minute lead, lashing home after being picked out superbly by captain Dani Carvajal who, along with David Alaba, was playing his final game in a Real shirt.
Gorka Guruzeta halved the deficit on the stroke of half time to give the visitors hope of adding further misery to Madrid’s campaign going into the break.
Changes at Real
Real have endured a second-successive season without a trophy and trail their great rivals Barcelona by some distance in the league.
To compound matters for Real, Barca beat them in El Clasico earlier this month – a result that clinched back-to-back league titles for the Catalan club.
However, the off-season will see further change at the Bernabeu, with head coach Alvaro Arbeloa being shown the exit door, set to be replaced by Jose Mourinho for a second stint at the club.
