Mitchell Freeway closed after pedestrian hit and killed by car

The Mitchell Freeway northbound between Hepburn and Whitfords avenues remains closed this morning after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a car in Padbury last night.

The incident occurred around 7.20pm.

Emergency services arrived and located a 22-year-old male victim with critical injuries. He died at the scene.

The alleged driver, 30, left the area but later attended Joondalup Police Station where he was arrested and charged with failing to stop and render assistance and being the driver involved in an incident occasioning death who failed to report the incident to police.

He was refused bail and will appear in Joondalup Magistrates Court this morning.

Making headlines today, Cottesloe Beach is set for a multimillion-dollar revamp to help boost the revitalisation of the much-loved foreshore.

The $15 million project will be jointly funded by the federal government and the Town of Cottesloe – $10 million from the government and $5 million from the local council – and will see more public spaces created as part of the Cottesloe Beach Foreshore Revitalisation Project.

Meanwhile, more than 40,000 people took part in the annual HBF Run for a Reason yesterday, where sadly a competitor, 42, died after collapsing on the half-marathon course.

And four people have lost their lives on WA this weekend during National Road Safety Week.
