Bengaluru: Six policemen have been suspended on charges of dereliction of duty following the recovery of gelatin sticks ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Art of Living Centre on the outskirts of the city on May 10.Bengaluru South district Superintendent of Police R Srinivas Gowda suspended a sub-inspector, an assistant sub-inspector and four constables.

During an inspection, a police constable spotted gelatin sticks with a circuit and a timer.

Following the information, the National Investigation Agency swung into action and joined the probe.

Meanwhile, The Karnataka BJP has launched a strong campaign against the Congress government in the state over this issue.

What Unfolded on May 10

Hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the Art of Living Foundation near Bengaluru city on 10th May, police recovered two gelatin sticks in a cover dumped in the vicinity where the Prime Minister was to attend the function.

Prior to recovery of gelatin sticks by the police, an anonymous caller made a threat call to Koramangala police and acting swiftly the police apprehended him on Bannerghatta Road.

It is said the threat call was made at around 7 am while recovery of gelatin sticks was at around 10.30 am. Two gelatin sticks in a cover were noticed by a police constable identified as Jagadeesh along with Anti-Sabotage Check Team.

The police constable and Anti-Sabotage Check Team were placed at Vaddarahalli gate as part of security arrangements for the Prime Minister’s programme. The two gelatin sticks were seized by Kaggalipura police and registered a case in this regard.

Police said the gelatin sticks were discovered close to a compound wall.

Though it was found on the route to ferry Prime Minister and his convoy to the venue, the sticks were close to the compound wall. The sticks were on the road, clarified a police officer. Investigations continue in the case.

Meanwhile, over threat call, police apprehended Lohith, 40 years, and he was found to be a mentally unsound person and previously had made such threat calls during VIP visits to the city. However, police are trying to establish connections between the two incidents.
