Nellore:Members of the Prakasam Dairy Parirakshana Samithi urged Andhra Pradesh 20-Point Programme chairman Lanka Dinakar to facilitate the takeover of the defunct Prakasam Milk Producer Company Ltd., Ongole, by the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).
In a representation, the Samithi leaders said the dairy, established in 1976, had supported small farmers and rural livelihoods by providing a stable market for milk producers.
They said the dairy owns 109 acres of land, chilling centres, collection units and a milk powder plant. NDDB had earlier revived the dairy and marketed products under the Mother Dairy brand.
The representatives alleged that the dairy has again become defunct, affecting milk producers and increasing milk adulteration. They urged the government to hand over management to NDDB and recalled that Minister Nara Lokesh had promised to reopen the dairy during the Yuvagalam Padayatra.
