WA seeking to build military weapons hub
Western Australia could become home to a missiles manufacturing hub under a new plan by Premier Roger Cook to boost the state’s military capacity.
Cooks is expected to announce WA is seeking expressions of interest from defence giants to build a weapons hub during the first day of the Indian Ocean Defence and Security Conference, being held in Perth today.
The three-day conference will take place at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre under tight security, with people from 12 countries and 250 different companies attending to talk all things AUKUS and defence.
South Australia has just begun manufacturing military weapons. Before then, Australia had no capacity to build its own missiles.
