Taylor Swift has not only been dominating the headlines for her upcoming wedding with Travis Kelce, but she was also the most prominent artist of the 2026 American Music Awards. The pop superstar earned not one, not two, but eight major nominations, making her one of the highest nominees of the night. However, this year, Swift was noticeably absent from the star-studded event held on Monday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

On Monday, May 25, 2026, the AMAs saw a historic victory of Taylor Swift, as she became one of the biggest contenders of the night thanks to her massively successful 2025 album, The Life of a Showgirl. The singer earned nominations for Artist of the Year, Best Female Pop Artist, Album of the Year, and Best Pop Album.

Swift’s hit track, Fate of Ophelia, also landed nominations for Song of the Year, Best Pop Song, and Best Music Video, while Elizabeth Taylor received a nod in the newly introduced Song of the Summer category. With her new nominations, the singer has once again proved her record of being the most-awarded artist in American Music Awards history, with 40 AMA wins under her belt. 

Why did Taylor Swift skip the 2026 AMAs?

Well, her absence this year was allegedly for a rather wholesome personal reason. According to multiple reports, Swift simply chose not to attend the ceremony this year, perhaps due to her wedding planning. While no official reason was publicly given, reports say the singer has recently been spending much of her time away from major public appearances while focusing on her personal life with her fiancé, Travis Kelce.

Over the past few weeks, the engaged couple has been spotted attending weddings, having dinner dates, and even appearing at sporting events together in New York City and Cleveland. Most recently, Swift and Kelce were seen courtside at the Cavaliers vs. Knicks game over the weekend.

Sources close to the couple have suggested that the wedding planning has become a major focus for them, following their August 2025 engagement. In an April 2026 interview with Us Weekly, insiders revealed that both Taylor and Travis have been actively focused on their wedding planning, which has also allowed them to spend more quality time together.

Taylor Swift’s upcoming wedding plans

While Swifties had long imagined the Love Story singer as someone who had fantasized about her wedding day since girlhood, the singer says it was not the case at all. Granted that she now dreams of a dreamy destination summer wedding, she never really imagined planning a wedding until she met ‘the person’. In September last year, the singer had shared:

“You would think that I would’ve been the type of person who would’ve obsessed over the idea of a wedding my whole life. But I actually never thought about what I would ever do… until I met the person.”

If the reports are to be believed, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce will get married on June 13, 2026. While this has not been officially confirmed yet, a recent report stated that the occasion is all set to begin with Travis’s bachelor party.

Earlier in May 2026, Swift and Kelce had been spotted taking a private jet to Greece to attend the three-day wedding celebration for George Karlaftis and Kaia Harris. Before arriving in Athens, the couple spent time in London, where they attended a performance of Romeo and Juliet at the Harold Pinter Theatre. The pair has continued to stay in the spotlight during the NFL offseason as well, with fans closely following their travels and public appearances.
