Victoria Beckham’s bestie Eva Longoria talks missing her partner-in-crime in Cannes, the Global Gift Gala being her ‘life’s mission’ and her Netflix comedy
Victoria Beckham’s best friend Eva Longoria has said she wishes the designer had been in Cannes with her as she appeared at the Global Gift Gala.
The Desperate Housewives star, 51, told the Mirror, “I love Victoria, and would have loved for her to be here tonight in Cannes – but she always comes to our London gala, which always means the world to me. I would love for her to become an ambassador.”
The actress and activist – godmother to Victoria and David’s daughter Harper, 14, has been close friends with the Spice Girl-turned-designer who she dubs the ‘funniest’ person she knows since the mid-2000s, when the family moved to LA so Sir David could play with LA Galaxy.
Describing each other fondly as ‘sisters’, the pair have not only graced red carpets together, but have regular sleepovers and have posted snaps of girlie nights in pyjamas.
In 2023, she said of the British designer – who with her husband was recently revealed to have reached billionaire status, “We are inseparable. We have sleepovers all the time, mostly at their farmhouse or in London. We usually just blab all night.
“She’s extremely loyal. There’s never a moment I can’t call her, that she’s not available, that she’s not flying to see me, or I’m flying to see her. Or I’m raiding her closet. She gives me motherly advice and business advice.”
And Beckham famously helped Longoria design her civil ceremony outfit, wedding and after-party dresses when she married José Antonio Bastón in 2016.
Longoria is passionate about chairing the Global Gift Gala, on behalf of the Global Gift Foundation, which helps to raise funds for vulnerable children, women, and families worldwide.
Stunning at the event in a shimmering custom two-tone monochrome gown by designer Cong Tri, she said, “It’s always a fun one, because so many people are in town and it’s a really fabulous party.”
“This charity is my life’s work, helping women and children all over the world. The Global Gift Gala is a platform that connects foundations and the entertainment world and brings awareness to people who need to raise funds, raise awareness, make a difference, make an impact.
“We’re in 10 different countries. Cannes is a lovely, fun one because everybody’s here and it’s easy to put on – and Cannes is a very generous community because everybody really wants to participate. We get to take the funds from tonight and go all over the world to make a difference.”
Also enjoying the myriad of glitzy events that bring a sea of A-listers to the French Riviera for two weeks amid the world-famous film festival, she laughed that she has a few key tips for surviving Cannes at this time of year.
“Oh gosh, number one is don’t drink too much – because every day is an early day for me. I’m always working. Yeah, getting over the jet lag, getting sleep and having a lot of café noisette. A lot of espresso!”
The star, who shares a son, Santiago, 6, with her husband and is step-mum to his three children from a previous marriage, is also in town to promote her next project as director, The Fifth Wheel, due for a release on streaming giant Netflix – and by all accounts it’s a star-studded vehicle.
About a group of best friends from high school who attempt to reconnect during a weekend to Vegas, it all starts to go wrong when a hot outsider crashes the friends’ weekend and they’re forced to face their messy lives, bad decisions and unraveling friendships.
She told us, “I just finished directing The Fifth Wheel with Kim Kardashian and Nikki Glaser. It’s with Fortune Feimster, Will Ferrell, and Kristen Wiig. It’s a really big female comedy, and it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
Longoria shot to global fame on hit comedy-drama Desperate Housewives as glamorous, fiercely witty runway model-turned-suburban housewife Gabrielle Solis – and her soon iconic turn in the show, which ran from 2004 to 2012, saw her receive two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and a Golden Globe nomination.
Learning the mechanics of production while starring on Desperate Housewives, Longoria made the transition to director with the critically acclaimed 2023 biographical comedy-drama, Flamin’ Hot.
