Jonathan Andic, the son of the late Mango founder, has been grabbing the headlines for all the wrong reasons. For those unaware, he had been arrested in Spain as part of the investigation into his father’s death back in 2024. Now, Jonathan is claiming that the accusations against him are untrue.

Jonathan Andic denies killing Mango founder as he steps down as Vice President

According to reports, Jonathan Andic has denied allegations that he was involved in his father, the late Mango founder’s death. He describes the accusations against him as “serious, unjust and unfounded.” Along with this, he also announced that he would step down as Vice President of the fashion giant’s board so that he could focus on his legal defence. In an open letter to the Mango employees on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, Jonathan alleged that a “biased” and “distorted” narrative had been created around the case, leading to a false perception of guilt. This was especially true after he got arrested in Spain as part of the investigation into his father’s 2024 death. It is worth noting that this was his first comment on the case. Jonathan wrote:

“A public narrative has been created based on a view that is biased, distorted and taken out of context, which has created a perception of guilt that has nothing to do with reality. I know that dismantling it will take time, effort, and intense dedication… I make this decision sadly, but convinced that it is what’s best for the company and for me… I need to concentrate all my energy on demonstrating my innocence.”

All about the mysterious death of the Mango founder

It was on December 14, 2024, that Isak Andic, the founder of the global clothing brand, Mango, passed away. According to reports, Isak’s death was caused by falling nearly 500 feet from a cliff in the Montserrat mountains situated near Barcelona when he was out hiking with his son, Jonathan. While the death was initially treated as a normal, tragic accident, things changed in October 2025, when prosecutors decided to reopen the investigation, focusing on the involvement of Jonathan Andic.

At the time, the investigators alleged that they had found inconsistencies in the 45-year-old’s statements and the circumstances surrounding the fall. Finally, this prompted them to arrest Jonathan last week before being released on bail of one million euros, which converts to a whopping USD 1.2 million. As per the investigators, the area where the Mango tycoon fell to his death was part of a relatively easy hiking route and was often used by families and even schoolchildren.

If reports are believed to be true, the authorities questioned whether the nature of the fall matched the account Jonathan had given them of his father accidentally slipping. After investigators also examined the forensic findings, they noticed that the injuries and position of Isak’s body were inconsistent with an accidental fall, as per the BBC. Coming to the discrepancies found in Jonathan’s account, he initially told officers that his father was taking photographs just moments before his fall, but investigators found the phone in Isak’s pocket. In another version, he told the police that he had been walking ahead of his father, while another time he indicated that they were much closer.

Furthermore, authorities examined the visits that Jonathan allegedly made to the site in the days leading up to the incident. According to them, the trips may have involved “planning and study of the site.” When police probed the broader family and business context, they reportedly noticed tensions between the father and son over Isak Andic’s plans to establish a charitable foundation. Allegedly, the texts between Jonathan and Isak showed a strain in their relationship and even claimed that the former has exercised “emotional manipulation” over his father for “economic objectives.”
