
The Fast-Track Court for Pocso Act and rape cases on Tuesday convicted Chilkur Sandeep Kumar, 20, to 20 years jail and Rs 50,000 fine for raping a four-year-old child. by. The court also directed that a compensation of ₹3 lakh be paid to the victim.
Police said Kumar had lured the victim, who was playing with her friends, and assaulted her. The victim told her her family, who lodged a complaint with the Rajendranagar police.
The Bharosa team counselled the victim and her family, under the supervision of women’s safety wing DCP, Dr Lavanya N.J.P, ACP, Prasanna Lakshmi, Bharosa inspector, P. Padma and centre administrator Gadusu Jyothi.
The investigation was overseen by Rajendranagar ACP K. Ashok and inspector, G. Suresh and the trial was conducted by special additional public prosecutor, B. Venkateshwara Reddy. Legal counsellors Dhruthi Chowdary and Chandu Alimela and court duty constable N. Krishnayya contributed to the trial. City police commissioner V.C. Sajjanar appreciated the personnel for their efforts and coordination.
Man’s head hits road, dies immediately
A person died after receiving serious injuries when his motorcycle suddenly skidded near Karepally in Khammam district on Tuesday. The victim was identified as K Sitaramulu (45), who was a native of Gampellagudem in the district.
According to police, Sitaramaulu was travelling by motorcycle to Karepally from his native place. During the journey his motorcycle suddenly skidded on the road, due to which his head hit the ground and he died on the spot. Upon information, Karepally police rushed to the spot and shifted Sitaramulu’s body to mortuary of Government hospital at Wyra for autopsy.
3 members of vehicle lifting gang arrested
Khammam Town-II police on Tuesday arrested three members of vehicle lifting gang and seized two autorickshaws and two motorcycles, total worth Rs 3.3 lakh from their possession. The arrested were identified as Nunavath Sai Kumar (30) and Banoth Sai Kumar (29) from Pedda Thanda and Banith Sai Kumar (27) from Vanga Muthyala (VM) Banjar in Khammam district. All are auto drivers.
Khammam Town-II S.I. V Ramesh informed that the police took the three accused into custody when they were moving suspiciously at Tekupally Bridge in Khammam. They confessed the offences of theft of two autorickshaws and two motorcycles in Khammam. A case was filed against the three vehicle lifters and produced them before the court.
Undertrial escapes from Gandhi Hospital
An undertrial prisoner who reportedly swallowed iron nails in Chanchalguda Central Prison to force officials to take him to Gandhi Hospital escaped while under treatment there.
According to Trimulgherry police, Syed Ameer Hussain was arrested for alleged mobile phone snatching and sent to judicial remand at the Chanchalguda prison on May 19. That he had escaped came to light on Tuesday after the Trimulgherry police, along with the prison department officials, lodged a missing complaint with Musheerabad police.
Special teams have been formed to trace the fugitive, who told a hospital attendant that he was going to attend nature’s call and then escaped, police said.
Police warn of astrology Cyber frauds
Cyberabad cybercrime police have issued an advisory warning citizens against a growing trend of cyber frauds being carried out in the name of online astrology, tantra and spiritual problem‑solving services through social media platforms such as Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook.
According to police, fraudsters were posting advertisements claiming to offer solutions for personal, financial and family‑related issues. The scams often involve promises of peace rituals, remedies for financial troubles, love marriage assistance, business growth, family dispute resolution and so‑called tantra for vashikaran services.
Officials said fraudsters initially gain victims’ trust by offering services for a small fee and later begin demanding larger sums under different pretexts. In several cases, victims were allegedly told that additional rituals, pujas or spiritual procedures were necessary to resolve their issues, forcing them into repeated payments.
Police said when victims stopped making payments or attempted to cut contact, the fraudsters allegedly resorted to intimidation through WhatsApp calls and messages. Victims were threatened with harm to family members or warned that their personal details and photographs would be shared publicly on social media.
Cyberabad Cybercrime DCP T. Sai Manohar urged citizens not to trust online advertisements offering instant solutions to personal problems and advised people against sharing personal information, bank details, OTPs or UPI PINs with strangers. Police urged victims of cyber fraud to immediately dial 1930 or lodge complaints through the national cybercrime portal.
Investigators noted that cybercriminals frequently use fake social media profiles, fabricated photographs, false customer reviews and multiple bank accounts to deceive victims. In some cases, a single gang reportedly operated multiple fake identities to psychologically pressure victims into paying money.
Commissioner reviews Gachibowli works
Cyberabad police commissioner Dr M. Ramesh directed officials to implement adequate traffic diversions to minimise inconvenience to commuters during the construction and road development works at the IIIT Junction in Gachibowli on Tuesday.
He was speaking after examining the progress of multi‑level flyovers and underpass works aimed at improving vehicular movement and easing bottlenecks along one of the city’s busiest stretches. Officials from the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation engineering wing and Cyberabad traffic police briefed him on the status of construction and traffic management measures.
Dr Ramesh stressed the need to develop alternative roads and take steps to maintain smooth traffic flow. He directed authorities to ensure proper installation of signboards, barricades and lighting arrangements at key locations to prevent confusion among motorists and enhance commuter safety. He also instructed officials to deploy adequate traffic personnel at required points for effective regulation of vehicular movement.
Emphasising inter‑departmental coordination, Dr Ramesh said all concerned departments should work together to complete the project within the stipulated timeline while giving utmost priority to public safety. Cyberabad Traffic DCP Sheshadri Reddy, Traffic ADCP Hanumantha Rao, engineering officials and senior police officers were present during the inspection.
Wife plots husband’s murder for insurance
Hajipur police on Tuesday arrested the wife and four others involved in the murder of Saini Kumar, 40, of RR Colony in Gudipeta, Hajipur mandal, Mancherial district. Mancherial ACP R. Prakash said investigation revealed that Saini Kumar’s wife Bharathi had developed extramarital relations with Ram Mallesh, who had lent ₹60,000 to Kumar, and also with Surender of Gudipet.
The accused had been pressurising Kumar to repay the loan, but he was unable to do so. Frequent quarrels broke out between the couple over Bharathi’s affairs. Bharathi and Surender then hatched a plan to eliminate Kumar with Mallesh’s help, and engaged a gang to attack him, projecting the murder as a road accident two days ago. Police found that Bharathi and her associates wanted to claim the LIC policies taken out on Kumar by eliminating him.
Man sentenced to five days imprisonment for misbehaving with woman
Seventh Special Judicial Magistrate M. Bhaskar on Tuesday sentenced Sudheer Kumar, 24, to five days imprisonment for misbehaving with a woman, abusing her and creating public nuisance, under the Malakpet police limits. Malakpet station house officer K. Narasimha said sub-inspector M. Tejya Naik, investigation officer, and court duty constable Ram Santosh pursued the probe and trial, which resulted in the conviction of Kumar, a resident of Shalivahananagar, Moosarambagh.
Cyber criminals try to cheat Raja Singh
Legislator T. Raja Singh claimed on Tuesday that a cyber criminal posing as a state finance department officer tried to lure and trap him under the pretext of the non-existent ‘Viksit Bharat scheme’. In a video, Singh cited a phone number and said the person, who introduced himself as Dilip Kumar, informed him that `3 crore was being sanctioned to each constituency to provide a loan of `10 lakh to each youth under the purported scheme, and that a 50 per cent subsidy is being given on this.
The MLA said he asked Dilip why he had not applied for this scheme. Raja Singh said that he initially believed what he said, but when he was told that this scheme would be available only by tonight, he grew suspicious and asked him to send Aadhaar cards immediately.
Singh said he called Deputy Chief Minister and finance minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka’s aide who told him that there is no such person at their office. Later, Singh filed a complaint with NCRB and the cybercrime, urging them to probe the case.
Bizman loses `95 lakh in fake trading scam
A 45-year-old businessman from Manikonda allegedly lost `95.85 lakhs to cyber fraudsters, who lured him into investing through fake stock trading platforms by promising massive profits through block trading, IPO allotments and upper circuit stock investments.
According to the complaint lodged by a resident of Manikonda, the fraud allegedly began after he came across an advertisement on Facebook in January 2026. He joined a WhatsApp group where persons identifying themselves as Keerthi Naidu and Ishitha Pragya claimed to help individuals build trading skills and invest in the stock market.
The complainant alleged that the fraudsters persuaded him to download a trading application through a website link and guided him in opening an account. Initially, he invested small amounts, following which the application allegedly displayed substantial profits and assured zero commission along with easy withdrawal options.
Encouraged by the apparent returns, Srikanth Reddy reportedly invested `21.60 lakh in the app, which later showed virtual profits exceeding `1.28 crore. In March 2026, he was allegedly directed to another platform named after a multinational corporation, where another person identifying herself as Preethi Agarwal allegedly encouraged further investments.
The complainant invested an additional `21.90 lakhs through the second platform, which displayed profits of over `2 crore. However, when he attempted to withdraw the money, the accused allegedly demanded `46 lakh towards taxes and later sought additional payments under different pretexts.
After paying further amounts and still failing to receive withdrawals, the complainant realised he had been cheated and approached the police. Based on his complaint, a case has been registered with the Cyberabad cybercrime police.
EOW book pub operator for cheating investors
Cyberabad Economic offences wing (EOW) police registered a case against pub operator Mada Chakradhar, his wife Mada Laxmi Madhavi and two others for allegedly cheating investors, criminal breach of trust and diversion of crores invested in ‘PS4 Kitchen and Bar’ outlets at Kondapur and KPHB, police said on Tuesday.
The case was registered following a complaint by businessman Venkata Aditya and petitions submitted by other investors who partnered in the venture. Police said four investors allegedly invested substantial amounts in the business and later suffered losses after disputes emerged over ownership, accounts and transfer of business rights.
According to EOW officials, the controversy surfaced after the business was allegedly sold and funds were raised without the knowledge or consent of the complainant and the other investors who partnered in the venture.
According to the complaint, Chakradhar and Madhavi allegedly induced investors to join as partners in PS4 Kitchen and Bar by promising lawful ownership rights, profitable returns and transparent management. The venture operated branches in Kondapur and KPHB.
Police said investors transferred crores into accounts linked to Padmaraga Group of Hotels for liquor licences and operational expenses. The complainants alleged that financial statements, GST details and business records were not disclosed despite repeated investments, while investors were informed that the business was running at a loss.
During preliminary inquiry, officials said allegations surfaced that funds were diverted to other business entities allegedly linked to Chakradhar. The complainants further alleged that the Kondapur branch was sold to another individual for `3.20 crores without the consent of partners, while funds amounting to nearly `3 crore were allegedly raised for the KPHB branch from another individual without informing the existing investors.
The investors alleged that they were sidelined despite investing heavily in the venture and currently hold no position in the establishments. Based on the complaint, Cyberabad EOW registered a case and launched an investigation.
Nalgonda police seize gutka bags, 54 bikes during cordon and search in Nalgonda
Nalgonda police on Monday night started conducting cordon and search operations in the RTC Bus Stand area. They seized 16 illegal gutka bags, 54 improperly documented two-wheelers and two auto-rickshaws.
Police searched around 360 houses and took into custody 46 suspects for verification. They verified identity proofs of 18 persons from other states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Assam, and Haryana.
Police found two rowdy sheeters and five trouble mongers in the area and asked them to report to their respective police stations regularly. They conducted ganja tests on six youth, with two of them testing positive.
Superintendent of Police Sharath Chandra Pawar personally supervised the cordon and search operation, which went on up to the early morning.
Speaking on the occasion, Sharath Chandra said the operation is to ensure law and order, identify suspects, and check illegal activities.
Seven circle inspectors, 18 sub-inspectors, narcotics detection dog squads, and nearly 200 police personnel participated in the cordon and search operations.
CISF constable among 5 held for murder in Suryapet
Five persons, including a CISF constable, were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the murder of a man over an agricultural land dispute in Suryapet district.
The arrested were identified as Mekala Kiran, 35, his wife Mekala Mounika, 34, his father Mekala Krishnaiah, 63, mother Mekala Laxmamma, 58, and neighbour Mattapalli Ramachandru, 52, all residents of Solipet village.
Police said the victim, Mekala Jayaramulu, 65, was hacked to death on the outskirts of Solipet village on Monday night.
Addressing a press conference at the district police office, Suryapet SP K. Narsimha said the accused were arrested within 12 hours of the murder. Preliminary investigation revealed that Jayaramulu had a long-standing dispute with his brother Krishnaiah over the boundary of agricultural land owned by the family.
Police said Krishnaiah’s family allegedly conspired to kill Jayaramulu due to the ongoing enmity. Kiran allegedly attacked Jayaramulu with an axe while he was returning home from his agricultural fields, killing him on the spot.
According to police, Mounika, Krishnaiah, Laxmamma and Ramachandru allegedly assisted Kiran by sharing information about the victim’s movements.
Chain snatcher caught by locals
A chain snatching attempt and attack on a woman has created a stir in Jayabheri Colony, Kompally. According to the locals, the snatcher attacked a woman while she was on her way to the work place at an oil manufacturing unit, close to her house. After snatching her gold chain, the attacker tried to flee from the scene, police said.
Hearing the woman’s scream, locals gave chase and caught the chain snatcher and handed him over to the police station. Based on the victim’s complaint a case of assaulting a woman and robbery was registered. Criminal history of the accused is being verified and his arrest will be disclosed officially, a Petbasheerabad police official said.
Elderly man dies after ambulance got stuck in traffic
An elderly man died allegedly after an ambulance taking him to hospital got stuck in traffic for an hour at the Bowenpally crossroads on Tuesday night. M. Pochaiah was being taken to Gandhi Hospital from his house in Kompally, locals claimed.
Already sick with age-related issues, his health deteriorated and he died in the ambulance itself. However, his family members realized only after he did not respond. Bowenpally police has registered a case of suspicious death and shifted the victim’s body to Gandhi Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
Education department warns institutions against misuse of student, parent data
The school education department has instructed all government, local body, aided and private educational institutions not to share confidential student or parent data with private individuals, agencies or unauthorised persons, warning that disciplinary action will be taken against violators.
Instructions issued by the director of school education said sensitive information such as students’ mobile numbers, parents’ or guardians’ contact details and other personal data must remain confidential and be used only for official educational purposes.
The communication was sent to all regional joint directors of school education, district educational officers and heads of institutions across the State.
ACB nabs tahsildar in bribery case
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) caught Shamirpet tahsildar Sucharita red-handed allegedly while accepting a `2 lakh bribe that had been paid to her driver, during a surprise raid at her office in Medchal-Malkajgiri district on Tuesday.
ACB DSP, Anand Kumar told the media that investigation had been launched based on complaints that a huge amount of money was demanded from a farmer consultant regarding the conversion of about 30 acres of land in Aliabad of Shamirpet mandal. He said preliminary investigation revealed that a total of `30 lakh was demanded at the rate of `1 lakh per acre by the accused Sucharita.
“We are examining key documents and records related to land permissions in the office and are interrogating Sucharita and RDO Keesara Rajesh and several staff members,” he said. In 2024, MRO Satyanarayana, who worked in Shamirpet tahsildar’s office, was caught by the ACB along with his driver in a bribery case of `2 lakh.
RPF Hyderabad division detects and seizes unaccounted ₹1.22 crore from passenger
The Railway Protection Force, Hyderabad division, said it had facilitated the seizure of ₹1.22 crore unaccounted cash from a passenger travelling in Train No. 17057, Devagiri Express, on Tuesday. Senior DSC, Hyderabad, Debasmita C. Banerjee the seizure was made during an intensive inspection led by divisional crime prevention team.
During the check in Coach S-6, RPF personnel observed “suspicious behavioural indicators and unusual body language” of a passenger carrying two bags. Upon detailed enquiry and examination of the luggage, the cash was recovered. Preliminary enquiry revealed that the cash was allegedly being transported from Zaveri Bazaar, Mumbai to Secunderabad.” The suspect along with the recovered cash was subsequently handed over to the Railway police. The matter has been formally intimated to the income-tax department and Intelligence Bureau for necessary action, Banerjee said.
