After setbacks with films like Kanguva and Retro, Tamil star Suriya appears to have bounced back strongly in the Telugu states with Veerabhadrudu, regaining both confidence and box-office momentum.

“Tamil star Suriya has made a big comeback in Tollywood, and it is a huge relief for him,” says producer Raj Kandukuri, adding that Suriya finally picked the right script. “Playing a larger-than-life role with a divine touch has worked very well with Telugu audiences in both states,” he says.

According to trade sources, the film has collected nearly Rs 13 crore share in the Telugu states from a gross of around Rs 25 crore, which is considered a solid number for a dubbed film.

“Suriya had been missing successful outings with Telugu audiences for quite some time. I still remember films like Ghajini and Yamudu rocking the box office in the Telugu states and earning him immense fan following here. Of course, he later moved towards OTT-oriented content and impressed viewers with films like Jai Bhim and Soorarai Pottru, showcasing his versatility,” he points out.

The anti-corruption drama has reportedly crossed Rs 200 crore gross worldwide, once again proving that stardom and collections are closely tied to theatrical performance, especially amid the ongoing tussle between producers and exhibitors in the Telugu states.

“Theatres will always remain the true barometer for stardom and popularity because everything depends on footfalls. Superstars are made in theatres, and that charm can never be replaced,” he concludes.
