Stacey Solomon opened up about the emotional moments she and husband Joe Swash shared following the purchase of their Essex home, Pickle Cottage, in 2021
Stacey Solomon has revealed that she and husband Joe Swash used to leave their home in tears “every day” when they first bought the property. The couple purchased Pickle Cottage in Essex in 2021 for a reported £1.3 million and have since given fans regular glimpses into life at their family home.
Speaking to her co-star Dilly Carter on Sort Your Life Out: Unpacked, the 36-year-old was asked what she was “most proud of” when it comes to her home.
In response, she said: “Just the fact that I’ve got a home. I remember when me and Joe bought Pickle Cottage and, this is going to sound really stupid, but for like three weeks every day, we would walk out of it and just cry because we did not expect to ever grow up and be able to live in a house like that.”
Reflecting on their upbringings, Stacey continued: “He’s from Islington and I’m from Dagenham, I know they say you grow up and you dream of these kind of things but Pickle Cottage wasn’t a dream for us growing up, because I didn’t even know houses like that existed.
“So when we got Pickle Cottage I just think we were like, ‘Oh my god, we live in a house like this, like when did this happen and how did this happen?’ And I think I’m proud of every bit of my house.”
After purchasing the property, Stacey told fans it needed “lots of love and TLC”, adding that she could not wait to share the renovation journey with them.
Since then, the mother-of-five has transformed several rooms and areas of the garden, regularly updating followers on the progress.
Alongside renovating the inside of their property, Stacey and Joe have also built a swimming pool and a duck pond, which she described in 2024 as “the hardest pickle cottage project so far”.
The couple live in the house with their three young children Rex, Rose, and Belle and Stacey’s older sons Zachary and Leighton. Joe is also a dad to an 18-year-old son, who he shares with an ex partner.
Joe and Stacey held a wedding at their home in 2022, six years into their relationship. This came after the former EastEnders star popped the question on Christmas Eve in 2020 during a family walk through their local woods.
During the same podcast, Stacey spoke candidly about the realities of navigating the highs and lows of a long-term relationship.
She said: “Being in the public eye I think creates certain pressures, but not on our relationship because half the time what they’re saying, ‘If we know it’s not true, who cares?’
“Sometimes I fancy the pants off him and can’t wait to come home to see him. Sometimes I’m like, ‘Get out of my stratosphere – stay away from me’. I think we’re just like any other couple.”
