
A 19-year-old male alleged raped a 15-year-old girl from Duvvur mandal at a lodge in Khajipet, police said on Wednesday. The incident has caused outrage across the district. Duvvur police said the accused, identified as Eshwar, reportedly lured the minor with false promises and took her to a lodge in Khajipet. The girl returned home with severe bleeding late Tuesday. Her distressed parents immediately took her to hospital before filing a complaint with the police.
The teenage girl has been shifted to Kadapa RIMS, where medical examinations have confirmed that she had been sexually assaulted, officials said. Based on the parents’ complaint, Duvvur police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. A separate FIR has been lodged against the lodge management for allegedly allowing a minor to be taken inside the premises. Police said the accused fled the lodge after committing the offence. Searches are underway to trace Eshwar and apprehend him.
“Teams are conducting raids and gathering CCTV footage and witness statements,” a senior officer told Deccan Chronicle. The incident has reignited public anger in Kadapa, coming barely a month after the killing of a minor in Khajipet Agraharam that had shaken the community. 2 fishermen dead, 2 missing in boat mishap off Nellore coast

According to officials, five fishermen had ventured into the sea for fishing despite rough weather conditions when strong winds caused the mishap. One fisherman returned safely, while Thupili Balamurali and Kumari Govindu lost their lives. Tulasingari Ganesh and Tulasingari Raja remain missing, and intensive search operations are underway to trace them.
Agriculture and fisheries minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu expressed shock over the incident and directed officials to intensify rescue efforts. He announced an ex gratia of ₹10 lakh each to the families of the deceased and urged fishermen to follow weather advisories strictly.
Three boys drown in water pit in Sathya Sai district
Three minor boys drowned in a water-filled pit at Naranagepalli village of Roddam mandal in Satya Sai district on Tuesday.
According to police, the boys had gone to nearby agricultural fields to pluck jamun fruits when they accidentally fell into the water-filled pit and drowned.
The deceased were identified as Darahas Reddy, 13, Harshith Reddy, 10, and Srujan Reddy, 13. Police said Darahas and Harshith were brothers, while Srujan was their friend.
On receiving information from villagers, police reached the spot. With the help of local residents, the bodies were retrieved from the pit and shifted to Penukonda Government Hospital for post-mortem and other formalities.
Police said Harshith and Darahas were sons of Ajay Reddy, an Army jawan currently posted in Manipur.
Roddam police registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident.

Life sentence awarded to murder accused
The 12th Additional District and Sessions Judge at Pithapuram, P. Bhaskara Rao, on Wednesday sentenced an accused, Gosala John, to life imprisonment after holding him guilty of murdering his grandmother in July 2025.
According to Thondangi police, John killed his grandmother after she refused to give him money for liquor. He allegedly attacked her, leading to her instantaneous death.
Thondangi sub-inspector B. Jagan Mohan Rao registered the case, while Tuni cCircle inspector G. Chennakesava Rao conducted the investigation.
The court, after examining the evidence, awarded life imprisonment along with a fine of ₹5,000 to the accused.
East Godavari superintendent of police G. Bindu Madhav congratulated the investigating officers for securing conviction in the case.
