Will Clark has never exactly been known for subtlety, and the San Francisco Giants legend lived up to his reputation this week while unloading on the team’s suggestive viral outfield celebration during a brutal 22-33 season.
Clark, who now co-hosts “Deuces Wild” on the No Filter Network alongside former big leaguer Eric Byrnes, delivered the rant while literally wearing a black t-shirt with “Caution, I have no filter” plastered across the front.
And true to form, he didn’t hold back.
“The dance where they’re doing the f—— pelvic thrust or something like that,” Clark said of the Giants’ postgame celebration. “What the f— is this? You’re 20 and 30. You don’t have the luxury of doing that kind of bulls— out there.”
The celebration, which included outfielders Jung Hoo Lee, Harrison Bader and Drew Gilbert, went viral earlier this month after a win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Giants later reportedly asked players to abstain from the provocative collaboration.
Clark made it clear he agrees with that decision, but for the unwritten laws of good sportsmanship, or something akin to that.
“I hate it because it’s f—— stupid,” he added. “You haven’t earned the right to do it because you’re f—— losing.”
Still, the former first baseman hasn’t completely abandoned hope for the struggling Giants. Last week, Clark insisted San Francisco isn’t “cooked” yet and said teams can still “catch lightning in a bottle.”
But he has also blasted what he called the team’s “bonehead plays,” specifically calling out shortstop Willy Adames for losing track of outs while chatting with Mookie Betts during a recent game.
For Clark, the issue isn’t just losing. It’s looking distracted and celebrating like the results don’t matter. But if the Giants somehow do catch lightning in a bottle, would even Clark soften, and encourage the return of the hip-thrusting embrace?
