Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has permitted the impleading of selected candidates as respondents in a petition challenging eligibility criteria followed in the 2022 recruitment process of the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TGPSC).
Justice K. Sarath passed the order while hearing a petition filed by Kolakani Shashi Kumar and eight others. The petitioners questioned the selection of candidates with BTech/BE qualifications who allegedly did not possess the mandatory Diploma in Engineering prescribed under the notification for posts such as assistant engineers, municipal assistant engineers, technical officers and junior technical officers.
According to the petitioners, 787 candidates were provisionally selected, of whom only 173 had the prescribed diploma qualification. They contended that the remaining 614 candidates, selected across departments including public health, panchayat raj, groundwater, roads and buildings, and irrigation, did not meet the minimum eligibility criteria.
The petitioners submitted that impleading all 614 candidates would be financially and procedurally difficult due to court fees and related expenses. They sought to implead 65 candidates as representative respondents across departments and categories. Allowing the request, the court permitted inclusion of the selected candidates as respondents.
The matter has been posted to June 25 for further hearing.
