Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vijayan described the Governor’s policy address as lacklustre and without a clear direction for the newly elected government to take the state forward. Reacting to the address, he said it almost seemed like there was no policy at all. He noted that demands which should have been raised with the Centre were missing, warning that such an approach could deprive the state of its rightful share.

The Governor’s address also remained silent on the development blueprint prepared by the previous LDF government. However, he added that since it’s still the initial stage, these issues would be discussed in detail at the appropriate time.

Pinarayi dismissed the government’s claims of a serious financial crisis in the state, including outstanding liabilities and fiscal constraints. He asserted that the LDF government had managed finances well, leaving behind a surplus of Rs 5,429 crore in the treasury. The state’s public debt had dropped by 5 per cent over five years, and Kerala did not figure among the top 15 debt-ridden states in the country.
