Did the Fever miss a wide-open Caitlin Clark on bungled last-second sequence in loss?

The Indiana Fever trailed the Golden State Valkyries late in the fourth quarter of their meeting on Thursday, May 28. Still, thanks to a Sophie Cunningham layup off a Caitlin Clark assist, it was a one-point game with just under 18 seconds remaining. After a Gabby Williams made free throw, the Fever retained possession down by two points with 16.3 seconds on the clock, and naturally, many expected Clark to get the final look.

However, the last play of the game didn’t go as expected. Aliyah Boston had the ball inside and a strongly defended attempt was off-target, leading to a jump ball. Although the Valkyries ultimately held on to win 90-88, the big question among fans was whether Boston missed an open Clark near the three-point line.

Clark wasn’t actually heard saying “I’m wide open” in that clip, but from the look of the play and her entering the frame from the top of the 3-point line, it appeared that a defender was floating near her.
