Tracy Shaw has emotionally spoken of the “decline” she faces amid her breast cancer battle. The actress, 52, who is best known for having starred as Maxine Peacock on Coronation Street, announced her diagnosis early this year and in recent days has begun chemotherapy.
The soap star has been keeping followers up to date with things since it all began, and on Friday, she took to Instagram with a lengthy video in which she emotionally spoke of how she will be losing her hair in the near future as treatment continues.
She said: “You’re going to see a little bit of decline. I’ve come this far so I’m going to be honest and share this next phase. As much as I’ve loved being able to still feel the comfort blanket, which is what my hair is, the next phase is that it’s going to go. It’s all going to get very serious.”
Tracy, then suddenly backtracked and decided to look at everything in a matter-of-fact sense. She added: “Oh, stop that! It’s just fact. My body now is going to war with that thing that doesn’t belong here.” Tracy was then inundated with support from fans and friends.
Sally Dynevor, who famously endured a battle with breast cancer at the same time as her character Sally Webster did on-screen in 2009, said: “Thinking of you, Tracy. You are amazing.”
In response, Tracy said: “Thankyou Sally so are you.” Drag Race star Baga Chipz said: “Sending you lots of love,” and left a red heart emoji.
The emotional post comes shortly after Tracy told fans gave fans a candid update after she completed her first day of chemotherapy. She said: “First day of chemo done.
“I’m feeling alright but that has a great amount to do with the steroids which are helping my body fight the chemo that has gone in. So I went in today to start at 9am and I left at 5:30pm, very hot day and there was a bit of delay.”
“Basically with my chemo injection, one of which hadn’t arrived, it’s got nothing to do with robots or anything to do with the hospital team, it was the medics delivery, so yeah that was the delay. But I’m feeling really positive but everything I keep eating tastes horrible.
“Everything tastes of metal, just like you told me, and every now and again I feel like the Incredible Hulk, I want to start moving furniture around, the dogs keeping away from me because they sense that.”
This followed her recent decision to cut her hair to donate to The Little Princess Trust, and she has since ventured out to shop for a replacement wig. She posted footage online of herself modelling the various wigs and displaying them while being assisted by a Macmillan nurse who also offered guidance to individuals experiencing a similar situation, reports the Express.
Tracy. who who has also appeared in dramas such as Mile High and Casualty, and once enjoyed a brief pop career with a cover of the Lonnie Gordon hit Happenin’ All Over Again, recently explained just before beginning her treatment that she is only able navigate things by taking her illness one step at a time.
She said: “I had some great guidance which is ‘Don’t look up, just keep going to the next base camp, don’t climb Mt Everest, just keep taking one base camp at a time.’ “So today, I’ll be going into the hospital and I’ll be seeing my wonderful oncologist, and some other wonderful women on this journey with me, and I will face the next base camp.”
