Andy Zhou, the owner of two dumpling restaurants in Sydney’s Haymarket, has put his Point Piper mansion on the market with a price guide of $15 million, local sources revealed.
The businessman is behind Lee’s Dumpling and Nanjing Dumpling, the latter a dumpling and noodle diner that specialises in dumplings, salted duck and duck noodle soups.
Zhou purchased the four-bedroom, three-bathroom home for $14 million in March last year from Renae James, the founder of sleepwear brand Papinelle, records show. Zhou would have paid stamp duty of around $907,000.
The Papinelle brand began as a stall at Paddington markets in 2003 and its flagship store on Oxford Street was opened a year later. Items are now stocked in stores across Australia and New Zealand, through their retail partners in the United States, and online.
Local sources not authorised to comment publicly said Zhou was selling the two-storey abode with sun-drenched gardens and a pool as it’s “redundant to his needs”. Zhou also owns a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment in Haymarket, bought for $1.45 million in 2020, records show.
It’s understood no enhancements to the Point Piper residence have been made since Zhou’s purchase. Interiors feature Tasmanian hardwood floors, high ceilings, a sleek white kitchen and statement lighting.
The property is in proximity to Lady Martins Beach and Rose Bay Wharf, and the buyer will be neighbours with some of Sydney’s elite.
Point Piper’s market includes notable owners such as tech entrepreneur Scott Farquhar, who paid $130 million for Uig Lodge, media baron Lachlan Murdoch, who bought a $38.5 million boat house, and former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull. Freight boss Terry Tzaneros, and his wife, Anne, bought a $38 million mansion there in 2021. It’s next door to the $200 million-plus home of Aussie Home Loans founder John Symonds.
An auction for Zhou’s property has been scheduled for Wednesday, June 24, and D’Leanne Lewis of Laing+Simmons Double Bay is the listing agent. Lewis declined to comment on any aspect of the listing when contacted by this masthead.
Architecturally designed mansion for sale
A three-storey sandstone mansion in Mosman, designed by renowned architect Susan Rothwell is for sale. Local sources have revealed the price guide is in the $15 million to $20 million range.
Yahan Wang, a senior technology executive specialising in AI-powered consumer goods, purchased the five-bedroom, four-bathroom house for $13 million in 2024, records show.
The sandstone, concrete and double-brick build is surrounded by high hedges for privacy. There is a pool and garden, and sweeping views across Sirius Cove to the city skyline.
Interiors are stunning with a central staircase, neutral palette and an entertainer’s stone kitchen. There are multiple indoor and outdoor settings to kick back and relax in style.
The current suburb record came after a palatial Mosman home sold for $50 million in October. The property also holds the north shore record.
Settlement documents this month confirmed the exact sale price of $50 million and the buyers to be Andrew Cochineas, the chief executive of Pallion, and his wife, Lisette, the former NSW and ACT general manager for the Institute of Chartered Accountants. The property is under Lisette’s name.
The six-bedroom, seven-bathroom property was sold by the Balnaves philanthropic family just days before the estate officially went to market. Michael Coombs of Atlas Lower North Shore and Adrian Bridges, who is now at Raine & Horne Mosman, sold the home.
Wang’s house is being sold by lead agent Anna Chen of BresicWhitney Lower North Shore alongside Shannan Whitney. Chen sold another Susan Rothwell-designed estate in Mosman for $38 million in December, alongside Guido Scatizzi.
Mattress king to offload estate
A 20-hectare estate in Coorabell in the Byron Bay hinterland has been offered to the market with a price guide of $13 million, local sources said.
Dominic Jay Burnz, the founder of Adjusta Mattress, an adjustable massage mattress that is said to help with health complaints, bought the existing property on the site for $8 million in 2023, records show.
An extension and renovation of the home was completed, transforming it into a seven-bathroom, six-bathroom estate, as detailed on Burnz’ Instagram page.
A paved sweeping driveway leads to the rebuild and consists of a five-bedroom main residence and a two-bedroom “summer house” with a gym.
Leisure zones include expansive entertainer’s terraces, a pool, tennis court, basketball ring, beach volleyball court, sauna and fire-pit courtyard.
Interiors ooze elegance with floorboards, chandeliers, marble detail and expansive glass to capture the rolling green pastures.
There is also equine infrastructure with six purpose-built stables and a professional sand dressage arena.
Will Phillips and Nick Gill of Sotheby’s International Realty Byron Bay are handling the property campaign and both declined to comment on any aspect of the listing.
