EXCLUSIVE: Becky Vardy’s new ITV1 show The Vardys has reportedly unsettled Coleen Rooney, who fears the revival of the Wagatha Christie court case could damage her Primark clothing range and other brand partnerships.

Becky Vardy’s new TV show The Vardys begins on ITV1 this week, which gives viewers a fly-on-the-wall peek at the footballing family as they start a new life in Italy.

Coleen Rooney, who was embroiled in a legal battle with Becky, 44, after she accused her fellow WAG’s Instagram account of leaking stories about her to a newspaper, fears tales of the court case will resurface in the show. A source says she even told a pal she wants Becky to “get her own life and leave me alone”.

“Coleen doesn’t need Becky’s show airing at the moment,” our source said. “She doesn’t want the court case being dragged up again and her name being on the front page of the newspapers.”

The WAGs faced each other in court in 2022 when Becky filed for libel against Coleen’s 2019 Instagram post which accused Becky’s account of leaking stories – something Becky has constantly denied. The judge ruled in Coleen’s favour and Becky was ordered to pay her £1.8 million in legal costs.

Four years after the judgement, Becky has spoken about the ordeal, again pleading her innocence. The Telegraph reported that Becky said she’s “never, ever, going to apologise for something I didn’t do… Hell will freeze over before I do that”.

Becky’s husband, former Leicester City striker Jamie, backed his wife, saying, “People thinking that Bex was a villain, it’s just a load of s**t but everyone close to her knows, that’s all she needs.

“It was really tough seeing Bex in pain, obviously with all the c**p coming her way. As a husband, the only thing you can do is be there for her.”

Coleen, 40, who is married to former Manchester United and England ace Wayne Rooney, documented her side of events for the Disney+ documentary series Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story in 2023. In the show, she explained how she’d gathered the evidence she felt she required regarding the leaked stories but didn’t anticipate being sued for her revelations.

She told Woman’s Hour the court case was “one of the toughest times I’ve had”.

“I would never in a million years have thought a court case could come from that,” she said. “I did not want to go to court and I was terrified because I’ve never been in a courtroom before.”

Since then, Coleen has come second in the 2024 series of I’m A Celebrity… has her own clothing range with Primark and has been working with various brands including the supplement company Applied Nutrition.

And our source says Coleen doesn’t want Becky’s new show to jeopardise all the great things that she has going on.

“Coleen’s got her Primark range and so many other projects and she really doesn’t need this,” they revealed. “She doesn’t want Becky wrecking her brands and bringing her name into it. She will have her legal team watching the show.”
