PM Modi Meets Myanmar’s President U Min Aung Hlaing

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing on Monday at Hyderabad House in the national capital.

President Min Aung Hlaing is on a visit to India from May 30 to June 2 at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi.

This is Min Aung Hlaing’s first visit to India in his current capacity as President. He is accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising Cabinet ministers, senior officials, and business leaders.

Earlier on Sunday, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval called on the Myanmar President.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a post on X, “NSA Shri Ajit Doval called on President U Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar today.”

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had also met the Myanmar President on Saturday and appreciated his positive approach towards strengthening bilateral ties.

In a post on X, Jaishankar said, “Pleased to call on President U Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar in New Delhi today. Appreciate his positive sentiment towards deepening our longstanding bilateral cooperation. Look forward to his meeting with PM Narendra Modi to advance our partnership for peace, progress and prosperity.”

Before arriving in New Delhi, Min Aung Hlaing visited Bodh Gaya in Bihar.

Welcoming the visit, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted the deep civilisational and spiritual ties between India and Myanmar.

During his visit to Bodh Gaya, the Myanmar President paid homage at the Mahabodhi Temple, one of Buddhism’s holiest sites and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Earlier, while addressing a weekly media briefing on Friday, Jaiswal had outlined the broad agenda for the bilateral discussions between the two countries.
