Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden spoke out about her future on the BBC show as she sets to return to the dance floor for a brand new series
Amy Dowden says fans could see “a very different” version of herself should she step into a fresh position on Strictly Come Dancing. The Welsh dancer has graced the BBC programme since 2017, guiding numerous celebrities including Brian Conley and Tom Fletcher through their dance journeys.
Following her courageous fight against cancer and navigating various health challenges, Amy recently shared that she feels more prepared than ever to make her comeback to the ballroom floor this year.
While she loves using her expertise to train celebrities hoping to lift the coveted glitterball trophy, the professional dancer has expressed hopes of joining the judging panel someday.
Speaking to Best Magazine, she remarked: “At the moment the judging panel [Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke] is perfect and I love them deeply. But obviously nothing lasts forever and in the future, I would love to see myself on there.”
The 35-year-old explained she becomes “a very different person” in a judging capacity, noting: “I judge a lot of competitions around the country now and climbing the ranks and knowing what it means and how hard you’ve worked to get on to that dance floor.
“I take the job so seriously and try to make the right decisions so I can go to bed and sleep at night, knowing I made the right choice! People would see a very different Amy,” she added.
Elaborating on her suitability for the position, Amy explained: “I’ve got a great understanding of hard times, with all the health battles I’ve been through to being a female on the show, growing up in our country and seeing what Strictly is to the British public.”
Yet whatever role she may serve in going forward, Amy emphasised her unwavering commitment to remaining part of the Strictly family.
The professional dancer was forced to step away from the 2023 series after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
Following chemotherapy treatment and a mastectomy, she announced her remission the subsequent February.
Amy made her comeback to Strictly later that year, though faced another unfortunate setback after fracturing her foot and collapsing behind the scenes, which forced her to withdraw.
Having conquered these health obstacles, she triumphantly returned to the ballroom last year partnered with Thomas Skinner. Though, the duo became the first couple eliminated from the competition.
Ahead of the upcoming series, Amy expressed that she’s now “feeling stronger and happier”.
“I feel really content and so excited to be a part of Strictly for my tenth year,” she shared with Closer Magazine.
Taking to the floor alongside Amy this year will be fellow professional dancers Julian Caillon, Neil Jones, Nikita Kuzmin, Jowita Przystał, Aljaž Škorjanec, Alexis Warr, Kai Widdrington, Nancy Xu, Lauren Oakley and Vito Coppola.
Back on the judging panel are familiar faces Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and head judge Shirley Ballas.
